Good Evening and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!
I placed an order on the 21st for three boiled wool jackets from Macy's. I received them on the 24th, and when I opened the bag last night, the aroma just about knocked me out. I'm not a big perfume/scent person, and these jackets smelt like they had been doused in cheap perfume. I pulled them out of the bag, and saw that every one of them had been a return. (They had all been stuffed into a plain plastic bag, then that bag was stuffed into the Macy's plastic bag for shipment.)
So, a couple of questions. Is there a way to get the perfume smell out of boiled wool, short of taking new pieces to the cleaners? Or, should I just return them to Macy's and hope I can find unscented ones in the store?

I think it's doubtful you could get the smell out of them. I would definitely return them. If you have to mail them I don't think you should have to pay the return shipping.

My sister is a smoker and I like to go to the casino every once in a while, so I've found that scented dryer sheets work well in taking out the smell of cigarette smoke. I bought some at Marshalls but I imagine any dryer sheet will do.
I put them in for about 20 minutes on low heat.

I've gotten cigarette smell out of purses, mildew smell out of a hundred year old hump back trunk and have been successful with gel odor absorbers. For the purse, I opened all zippers and pockets and put the bag into a plastic bag with an opened gel absorber next to it, blow into the plastic bag and seal it at the top. I've left it for a week, opened it and closed it up again for another week. Eventually the smell went totally away.
The hump back trunk I purchased at an Estate sale and frankly I smelled it before I saw it! For the trunk I bought two gel odor absorbers, opened them and put them both into the trunk, closed the trunk for about three to four weeks. I was amazed when I opened the lid. There was no odor. I've had great success with these gel absorbers. They can be found at Ace Hardware, the Pet Section at WalMat and at some supermarkets (where they sell room deodorizers.
But frankly I'd return the garments and agree with the other posters that the items sent to you were worn.....

I would return them, absolutely, without thinking twice about it.
