Battery Life

Merry Christmas Christine.

I received the 17" HP TSV for Christmas. I plugged it in and charged the batterry overnight. The first use of this Laptop after charging did not exceed 4 hours. I'm a bit disappointed. Is there some sort of battery managment process that I am missing?

Does the laptop continue to use power even when turned off? One of the selling points for me besides some of the other features was the extended battery life.

Any insight woud be helpful.
