Acer liquid leap smartband

Did anyone get this from the "other" channel? I got one for Christmas & having trouble getting it to record steps. All day yesterday and it only showed 150 steps. Today I've had it on for over an hour and I'm at zero steps. I've tried swinging my arms, not swinging them, big steps, little steps- nothing works. 

 

I have 2 fitbits (clip ons) and never had any problem with them. I wanted to try one with a band and actually asked for this one for Christmas- looking like a big mistake!

 

If if anyone has some tips please share. I'll probably have to send it back but it was a gift. To further complicate matters they were sold as a 2 pack- so I'd have to see if the other recipient is happy with theirs...
