Does the word "pants" really have a singular?

I hear hosts and vendors using the word "PANT" all the time. It just doesn't sound right to me. I've always used the word "PANTS" (with and S). What does the word "pant" mean when referring to clothing?

It would depend on whether you are using it as a verb or a noun....

I have used the word Pant when referring to a pant leg. But when talking about pants, it's always a pair of pants. Guess because it has two pant legs.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I agree with you. I same when referring to one leg of the pants.....pant leg. I hear hosts and vendors say things like, "This blouse would look great with a black pant". It just doesn't make sense to me.

Does anyone else notice this?

I believe in the world of fashion it is used quite often.

I personally don't use it.

Its like that beauty makeover show, where the host would say "this cheek color looks good with a 'pale lip' "...WHAT? Just one LIP? don't lips come in pairs?

I think it's just one of those strange permutations of language that come and go. I get more annoyed when the word is typed as ""pant's"".

Yes! There's a difference between plurals, possessives & contractions.
