@Tinkrbl44 - now that I  read and follow the directions 2 capsules before or right after eating my  cholesterol dropped to normal range from originally 211 first time in many years.  I take Rosuvastatin 5mg at night.

I believe Simvastatin causes my lower legs to ACHE.  I tried Zetia for 7 months but numbers went up a bit.  Now I am prescribed Rosuvastatin (Crestor) but I am leary to try it.  I am so tired of this feeling in my legs... My mom and her sisters all had 300 readings for cholesterol.  She also could not take statins.  I am tempted to take nothing.  I take no other meds except Glaucoma drops and my BP is great.

@bargainsgirl I have been on Crestor for years and have never had side effects. My cholesterol level is great.

Had similar problems. Pain in legs and could hardly walk. I am a retired nurse so I stopped the statins for 2 weeks and then restarted them again but this time I take COQ 10 with it.
No problems at all !!
Take a brand called Qunol. Comes in a black container and just picked up yesterday at Costco. 280 caps for 29.
You can read reviews on Costco’s website. Cardiologist approved!
Good Luck!

We take Ubiquinol instead of Q10 it is supposedly the better version of it.

I have stopped Simvastatin for 3 weeks now.  Not much improvement.  My Doctor switched me to Crestor. I have not started taking it yet.  Maybe I will give the COQ10 a try.  How long till you felt some relief?

I went to a cardiologist back in December for just a general checkup since I had not been to one at the age of 71.

He tried to talk me into a statin saying how great they are but my cholesterol was 195 and I refused.  I have heard of too many negative side effects and if my numbers are in range I'm not going to "fix" something with these meds that I'm afraid of causing new problems.

I felt like he was just interested in getting me to start on taking this in addition to my blood pressure medication.

Ubiquinol is the active bioavailable form of CoQ10. Younger people who take CoQ10 biologically have the ability to convert CoQ10 to the active form of ubiquinol. But in older adults the body's ability to convert the CoQ10 to ubiquinol is lacking so most of the CoQ10 taken by older people goes to waste. People over 50 should take ubiquinol instead not b/c it's better than Coq10 but b/c in older people it is bioavailable for the body to process. @Shelbelle

high cholesterol can run in some families.. I am at borderline, I didn't want to take statins, and I qualified to take Praluent .  You inject every 2 weeks. Same class as repatha. I have friends on it who didn't want statins or coukdnt take where statin was a must.  It worked for them. I bought it, my copay was 202.00 for a mo supply. I never took it. I am sedative  right now, no exercise.  I don't eat meat, most dairy etc. I eat  healthy organic, and read the nutrition on everything.  Then cardiologist said it was okay not to take it after I fest up I hadn't taken it yet. I have spinal issues with neurostimulator. I just am sensitive for most drugs. I was afraid of more pain...but mainly taking another drug with mu cirrent situation  But I wouldn't tell someone else not too take it. I think that is not only ignorant, but dangerous. I can tell someone I didn't take it if they ask, but I'm not to going to preach to others .  I do know many people, especially older ( even people older than me, lol) take too my meds without questions. Never  researching, educating themselves on side effects. Everything has side effects, almost everything. But research a little on reputable, scientific sites, not pulp fiction sites that want to sell you a life style or their remedy.  Reason and research. Reason and moderation are the key here. Each decides for their own lifestyle!
