I am 61 and had been putting off getting a shingles vaccine and did not get it. stupid me. Now I have shingles. Been pretty miserable for several days. Just keep hoping it will go away without the lasting nerve pain.

I"m so sorry @webbgarner1!

I hope to never get it but I admit I'm also afraid to get the shot!

Sorry you are dealing with that virus !  I had the shingles shot but still had shingles last March. The sudden "banging" head pain was horrible and I had the rash on the right side of my neck and shoulder. Having had the shot I was shocked when my doctor evaluated me and said it was shingles.  I was on gabapentin which helped somewhat. The virus lasted for about a week. Best wishes for a complete recovery. The virus would have probably been worse for me had I not had the shot according to my doctor

The shot is definitely the lesser of the two evils

Get at least the first one to build up antibodies.  Shingles can be devastating.

@webbgarner1      If you are NOT taking prescription drugs for your symptoms, there ARE some HOME REMEDIES you can try.

LYSINE, an amino acid in the vitamin family,   will help with the blistering, and an ANTIHISTIMINE  will help the burning.

Both inexpensive and available in your local drug aisles.

I got shingles when I was in my early 50's.  It was extremely painful until I went to the ER and the doctor prescribed Valtrex.

That drug worked.  My pain was gone by the next day, the rash cleared up and I had no lasting effects.

I got shingles while on vacation with my husband and two toddler grandchildren.  I had no time to slow down and relax.

Valtrex works!

PS.  You can still get shingles even if you're vaccinated.  Don't beat yourself over it.

I got shingles when I was young (30) around my waist. The doctor gave me a handful of prescriptions to fill. Since we were trying for our second child I didn't take anything. I just remember my case not being bad at all. I definitely got my vaccine for shingles now that I'm pushing 70.

@webbgarner1 , so sorry to hear this. Hope it will take its leave soon. I, too, am afraid to get the shot; my doctor said he understands my hesitation.
