Only in Jan 2014 he started taking a low dose aspirin with his new Dr. He was not told to stop taking it.

I specifically asked the Dr if that was the cause. He said statistically, there is no more bleeding with people that take the aspirin and no less bleeding with people that stop taking it. I don't buy it.

hemoglobin is now 11.5 .they ordered the laxative prep. He's still bleeding.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.

Last Monday I was scheduled for an upper GI but it was cancelled because they forgot to tell me to stop Aspirin and I took it the day before. I am confident he will be ok but the Aspirin should have Been held.

I really wish there was another way (until this) the prep was the worst part.

I've had polyps removed. I think I've had 3 colonoscopies. All with no issues at all.

We both still believe it's better to have polyps removed pre-cancer and will continue to have colonoscopies.

I think there are virtual colonoscopies available. I don't think it would have seen the teeny polyp they saw in this colonoscopy. The Dr removed it too. It was the 8mm one that was the bleeder.

ETA: with-holding the low dose aspirin is something he will do whether they tell him to or not.

it was routine. no symptoms. All of this is still better than cancer (we haven't heard about the biopsy yet).

He had one done 10 years ago & had 5 polyps removed with no issues. He should have gone in at 3 years after that one. He wouldn't though.

He will go in at 3 years from this one.

Next time will be at the hospital instead of endo center. We have a lot of things we will do different next time. We've already discussed it.

I'm in the process of finding a new GI practice, I've gone to the same one since 2005 and it's time for a new group to review my case, being I'm on the 'every 3 year schedule'. Also, last year they gave me such a hard time about doing a colonoscopy and endoscopy at the same time. I didn't want to do the prep twice- and I definitely didn't want anesthesia twice! Now, with Joan Rivers, I only want procedures done in the hospital - they only use surgical centers.

That's interesting. Two weeks ago I was scheduled for an endoscopy at an endoscopy center and my instructions were "do NOT stop taking aspirin". Never did have the procedure because I went into Afib as soon as they put me in the bed. This was at an endoscopy center. The hospital was right around the corner but it took over an hour to get me there. No more independent centers for me.

had this happen. had to have minor surgery to reseal, burn, and seal again where polyp was done. my bleed happened 2 days late after colonoscopy . had to have 3 blood transfusion. was in the hospital for 2 days. took about 1 week to get me back on my feet.

had to have prep done in the hospital, while laying on a gurnee table, not fun at all, but I survived

Same here, my local hospital is a mile or 2 mile away. And the surgi center is at least a 45 minute drive!
