I took a really bad fall the other night.

My sister called it  a "pin ball fall." (something like that, where I bounced around, then was pinned in by several items, outside on the steps, in the rain.

Anyone remember what was done for their broken ribs?

TIA

@JoyFilled Warrior I've never had broken ribs, but I just wanted to say I hope you feel better soon! Hopefully you've called your doctor or been to the ER or Urgent Care.

@JoyFilled Warrior You obviously seem like you did not go to the ER immediately.  Even one broken rib could cause  many complications depending on how many and which ribs were broken.  Could result in a punctured lung.  To tell if really any broken then see a doctor immediately!  A woman I know fell down the steps and broke all the ribs on one side when she fell and was given a brace, told to rest and had ongoing PT until she healed.  I had cracked a rib once and also popped one out and after xrays told to just move carefully and rest until they healed but the pain was pretty bad so I really could not do things!

They don't do anything for broken ribs.

Hopefully you did have them x-rayed and they don't pose a threat to puncturing a lung.

@JoyFilled Warrior    I had X-rays for the ribs....AND an MRI to make sure my spleen had not been punctured.

Then I wore an elastic corset that closed with Velcro so I could maintain some semblance of daily activities.   I understand they don't use any compression in today's treatment, tho.

I know how badly you are hurting, and I wish you a speedy recovery....(it does take a couple months before you will be fully active.)      di

@JoyFilled Warrior  Ohhhh So sorry you fell! 🙁🤕.

I fell a month ago tripping on a step going up the deck and dislocated my shoulder....nothing broken. Falling sucks as we older....I can not help you with your broken rib question, but usually I know is just rest, and letting  them mend without a lot of movement. Not much else you can do. Sort of like a dislocated shoulder.....just TIME and mending....

sending healing thoughts to you❤️

Broken ribs just take time to mend. Four to eight weeks seem to be the norm. If you're breathing normally, then you're unlikely to have a punctured lung. OTC pain meds tend to help with the pain. They will heal and feel better over time.

@wagirl  Good Morning! It has been a month now since my dislocated shoulder incident.......still healing....but at least I can fix my hair again!( So Vain😄) it is still sore to move in certain ways...hopefully it will heal enough to be able to do all the yard work come  spring and summer... lots of hedge clipping to do.  Maybe I need to hire someone  after years of doing it all myself?
