Been 5 years for me but my ortho doc says I am still not a candidate for replacement, says I am much too functional, I still get up and down my 26 steps easily, he said for a replacement I would have to tell him I can no longer climb the stairs. I am 73.

@Estellee. I agree, I vastly prefer Voltaren. 8 use a disposable rubber glove to apply it so I don't absorb more than needed. It lasts about 2 hours then gradually wears off.

@Kachina624 Thank you, that's a good idea to use a glove.

I purchased a bottle of BioFreeze a few months ago and when my knee hurts which is usually when I'm lying in bed I just roll some onto the spot that hurts and it makes it feel pretty good.
It doesn't take the pain (depending on how bad it is) away completely but it feels much better.
I only discovered it when I was using something else that worked well and was discontinued. I never knew about using it 4x a day. I just use as needed.

I too have have knee osteoarthritis. I also have bone on bone. 3 years ago, I was told I needed a knee replacement. I opted not to do it.
For the past 3 years, I have been able to walk 2 miles a day with the help of a knee brace, voltaren and tylenol.
My life would be a lot better if I could take advil but I cannot due to other health issues.
Lately, my knee has been bothering me again. I've started using solanpas and find this helpful.
I know I'll have to bite the bullet eventually but I really don't want a knee replacement at 78 years old.

I never thouight about using a glove for Voltaren application, but I only use it every few days and I use a very small amount, not nearly as much as the directions indicate. I get releif with just a minimum amount.

If the Voltaren was not cutting it for me like it is, I would consider the radiation treatments.

@Shelbelle. We have a radiological lab advertising that treatment but it sounds a lot like Cortisone injections; doesn't always work and effects are temporary.

My mom had knee replacement surgery when she was 89 years old. She wanted to dance at her grandsons wedding the following year. It was a slower recovery than a younger person, but she danced at the wedding!
