Hello Wellness Community - I was wondering if anyone on here does any kind of intermittent fasting??? I am researching it now and it seems interesting. I'd love to hear any comments you have from your experience.
I tend to be a nibbler so I need to "break" the cycle.

@Happiness Is Inside JOB Yes...18/6. It is easy and effective....lunch 12:00, dinner 6:000 usually. I take a day off if I want or I might fast , I listen to my body. You can adjust your hours to suit your schedule. I am trying something new since I watched a fabulous seminar on Mastering Diabetes (which I don't have, but learned a lot about insulin resistance and lots of research on low fat plant based eating -I've been plant based most of my life, long before it was popular). The panel of over 20 doctors were the best and very well known in the health/wellness community (Dr. Bernard, Dr. Gregor, Dr. McDougal, etc....). So I'm experimenting with eating substantial low fat starch/plant based diet. (Will continue to eat no oil, salt, sugar, meat, dairy, processed food) The medical research is convincing...but I will still sub some of my meals with raw plant based meals. If your goal is health or weight loss, I would highly suggest a plant based diet, the IF is a great additional motivator. Good luck to you!

Hi Happiness. I've been doing IF for probably the last month or so. I do it 7 days a week with maybe a day off here and there. I try to have my last meal between 6-7 pm and then do not eat anything until the next day between noon-1 pm. For lunch I have a protein smoothie (frozen unsweetened berries, frozen banana, protein powder, plain Greek yogurt, plain unsweetened almond milk and 3 tsp. coconut sugar (low gyclemic index). I do have a cup or two of coffee between 6-8 am with half and half and a 1/2 tsp. of sugar. So, I don't quite do true IF, more modified IF. I can't drink black coffee which would be true to IF. So, I improvise.
Also, other than the small amount of sugar in my coffee and smoothie, I do not have any other foods with added sugar, only naturally occuring sugar (fruit). I do not eat any processed food. For dinner I may have a large salad with an oil and vinegar base dressing or salmon with veggie or something else that I consider to be very healthy. I also drink water most of the day with a slice of lemon or lime in it.
I fell off the wagon for the past week but am back on IF. I can honestly say that I felt pretty good while doing it and have lost weight on it which was my main goal. I was sleeping better and didn't feel so achy when first getting up in the morning. Like I said, I'm back on it and plan to stick with it. And, for the most part, I'm not hungry between my evening meal and my noon time meal the next day. I was very surprised by this. But, don't fall off the wagon because all the bad habits come back quickly.
Good luck if you decide to take the plunge.

I've practiced IF most of my life, eating one mid day meal of organic plant based with small portion of poultry or fish, and a hand full of almonds. A couple times a month, just a hand full of almonds only. To drink, water or a flavored water, and an occasional can of diet soda. I've been able to keep my weight exactly where I want it. My treat, is a bit of chocolate.

I am a compulsive overeater and binge eater .. I would love to adopt
a program like this ....This summer due to many stressors my addiction
has really reared its ugly head and the overeating and binging have been
very bad ...Have a Dr. appoitment in Oct and it is not going to be pretty .
Every day I say I am going to get a handle on this problem ..but just can't
seem to do it ....

I've been doing time-restricted fasting without knowing it for the past year and a half, by circumstance.
While I am in no way on a plant-based diet (nor aspire to be), neither do I stuff my face, calorie, carb or nutrition-wise, with nothing but kwap either. I watch my sugar & carbs.
I have lost some weight, but not nearly as much as would be expected. Not all that much over 18 months. The TRF has not affected my blood pressure or my diabetes, i.e. has not improved them. Much is said about intermittent fasting in and of itself, almost "curing" diabetes, but I haven't seen that at all, nor have I lost a huge amount of weight.
I'm sitting at 17 hrs without food right now. I have no physical ill effects, and don't really feel hungry, but on the flip-side I'm not getting any benefit either, that I can see.
If fasting "must" be done in conjunction with a 100% plant-based diet in order to "work", then it's not going to help me, clearly, because I'm not going there. Life's too short.

Check out website with Dr. Gabe Mirkin. He has had lots ot say about this in the past.
I can lose weight and remain healthy if I don't nibble (better said than done) and if I can find a plan that I can follow. I do believe that MODERATION IS THE KEY.

I eat supper at 4:00 pm I do not eat again until about noon the next day. Some days I do not eat at noon at all and just have supper 4:00pm... So I guess that is a form of fasting.

"Moderation" isn't the answer for me. I have 2 cups of coffee in the morning, 2 cups of tea at noon, and my super nutritious meal at night, always dark green leafy veggies as salad or hot greens, egg whites and one whole egg, unsalted mixed nuts, berries, or a green apple.
I've lost 85 pounds, and after gaining 7-8 of them back because of a sleep issue, I'm back to my routine and feeling great.
In this last challenging year, my average daily activity level wasn't as high as it should have been, but I'm getting back to that schedule too.
My eating window is about 4:45-7 pm. Works great for me. I don't recommend it to ANYONE but my doctors are happy with what I'm doing.

@I think we've chatted before, @Big Joanie, but after a situation similar to yours, I've started deferring my disordered eating for shorter time periods. Yesterday I was fully driven to grab a spoon and attack a jar of Skippy's Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter, but happily, I deferred that craving for 15 minutes, and it worked. I then ate my PLANNED supper, and enjoyed it.
I also allow myself to go limp before I binge, relaxing every body part and every thought, and that sometimes helps a bit too.
I definitely think you're on the right track by acknowledging that your binging/craving is behavioral, because a BEHAVIOR can be CHANGED, even if making the change is very difficult.
The REAL viscious cycle in binge/crave disorder is allowing yourself to feel blame or shame for what you do rather than thinking of your overwhelming compulsion as something g for which you ultimately CAN develop control.
