After reading your post I realize you are experiencing the same things I have in this journey with diabetes! So glad I read your posts, it was SO helpful, especially about pigging out, lol

Now things are starting to make sense, love Dr. Bernstein too, thanks again!{#emotions_dlg.wub}

Thanks Smiley Happy Not an expert at ALL. Still learning every single day. Still make mistakes, but hey. I thought about writing a book called "Darn, you Bernstein". You know..about not wanting it to be right. Because of how hard it is to accept. It is so easy to hate his ideas and to think his 'rules' are impossible (yeah, they kind of are...). Like it's HIS fault diabetes stinks.

It's true that we don't HAVE to cut out all the stuff. We don't. We can eat whatever we want. If we want to take the pills...and eventually move on to insulin, etc. It's our choice.

But anyway...thanks for the nice post Smiley Happy

When I started this journey 13 months ago, my blood sugar was in the 400 range, my A1C was 12! I ended up in the ER. I had been following Dr. Barnards book about reversing diabetes! I was eating oatmeal,breads, beans etc and it was accelerating the diabetes. I could have died! The ER doctor scolded me and said if it was true all of his patients would have been on that diet! They gave me insulin and metformin. I quit the met last November as it was making me terribly sick. Now I take 18 units of Lantus. Who knows? Maybe someday I can stop that, but for now its a Godsend and its a natural drug, so I honestly can say I don't take any meds, terrified of them! My body has always rebelled against any drugs~ My A1C in december was 4.6! This is from eating the way Dr. Bernstein suggests. Didn't have any pumpkin pie this holiday..just couldn't do it! My doctor said she wished all her patients were this compliant..its called FEAR!! lol!{#emotions_dlg.scared}

If you need insulin, you need insulin. Bernstein says if it were up to him he would put more people on that than the other meds, so if that is what your body needs, then you don't have to explain that to anyone.

The metformin does wonders for insulin resistance, but man alive can it tear up the gut. Some people get over that and their innards settle down. Others don't. Someday you might be able to go off the insulin, but you might not. Either way, you can put a halt to any further damage to your kidneys, nerves, etc. And that is a good thing Smiley Happy

Edited to add 4.6!!!! WOWEEE Doesn't that feel GREAT!! When my doctor saw the 4.9, he said he'd NEVER seen a turn around like that in all the years he's been in practice. lol. Of course HE took the credit when he had nothing to do with it.

Just a side comment so I don't post in "her" thread. I also have asthma. and arthritis. And take meds for "other" things. Meds that affect blood sugar. I guess I can blame everything on that. And oh, I'm om medicare also...my doctor just wants me to be diabetic so he can make more money off me. That's it! I've been SOO silly this whole time.

You should feel great, its a big accomplishment! Only those of us with this dreadful disease really understand. I miss my cookies,pie, bread and chocolate..but I had many years to enjoy! He took the credit?? Stinker, lol. I'm proud of you!Wink

The metformin did tummy damage and took my weight from 107 to the eighties! I looked like the crypt keeper, lol. Thank God after ditching the met 2 months ago, I weigh 106 now! Maybe they should use it as a diet aid, lol! I was too sick to eat, lol.

OMG...you are walking proof that its not just fat people who get diabetes. I bet you love reading diabetes posts from strangers that say ""just lose weight and exercise and you wont get diabetis""

but yeah...the metformin is kind of like those sugar free gummy bears...

Lol, she's an RN..with an attitude! I'm sorry you have arthritis and asthma! I am just getting over shingles and the pain really spiked my bs.I have to be careful with tylenol because my labs said my kidneys and liver were stressed. They're better now, drinking more water. Isn't getting older fun?? NOT! Good thing we have a sense of humor, I think you're great!Cool

You have to have a sense of humor at our age. Yes, drink that water and limit the Tylenol. I dread the day I get shingles...I've heard that is horrible. You poor thing. I bet your doctor made a bundle off of you... Diabetes AND shingles? Did you see big flashing dollar signs over his head when you were there? Was he drooling? LOL

So sorry. I'm being ornery tonight. It's just that some things that have been said by her have made no sense whatsoever. I'm getting a little punchy giggling at them right now. Real mature of me, I know. Bad, iam...bad..

I only talked to my doctor and she thought I was doing ok. She didn't get to make a bundle, lol!! I took 2000 mg of lysine it really helped. I used tea tree oil for the rash, its antiviral and other then some pain, I'm doing ok. Please look into taking Lysine to prevent shingles, its antiviral. I have been taking it for years and will never be without it!

I love your humor, I like being ornery, lol. I'm watching the superbowl, its been good so far..probably won't make it till the end, oh well. Hope you have a great night!
