I am having cataract surgery in booth eyes as well as having my astigmatism's corrected.

Has anyone else had this procedure done?? Wondering how your vision is after a few days.

The second eye will be done 2 weeks after the first.

I had both eyes done in 2011. One week after the first was done, I had the other one done. It was so easy except for having to put eye drops in for a long time. I see things much brighter now. Still wear glasses to read and for night driving. I have macular degeneration so had to have the regular lenses instead of one for far vision and one for near vision. Glad I did it.

I also had both my eyes done in 2006. Best thing that ever happened. It is scary to think about someone cutting into your eye, but it was painless. They numb your eye with drops and then they gave me somelight light to put me in la la land and I was wide awake as soon as it was over.

You do have a lot of drops to use but in the end it was well worth it. I used to wear glasses all the time and now I can just use magnifiers to read because the new lense they put in corrected my vision. Make sure you ask your doctor about that. You don't want to get a new lense and still have to wear glasses.

I had mine done two weeks apart three years ago. The surgery was done in the morning, and I took the bandage off about 5pm the same evening. Miraculous! I did not have a corrective lenses, but last summer a third surgery allowed me to function without glasses.

I hope "hckynut" replies, as he has had experience in this and provided me some great information several years ago. Might be a good idea to "page" him.

I had both eyes done. One in mid Jan and the other last Wed. ( a month apart ) I have always been near sighted and never needed glasses to read but now I need readers for close work and can see far without glasses. After my eyes heal, I still will get an RX for glasses as I have an astigmatism ( corneal curvature ) and that will be built into my new RX. The top part will be clear and the bottom part no line bifocal. If you don't have an astigmatism, you can buy readers at any drugstore. I even got a nice pair of sunglasses that are clear at the top and bifocal on the bottom.

Let me assure you that the operation involves zero pain. They give you numbing drops and also an IV that has a sedative ( Versed ) so you can follow directions but don't really remember anything. I didn't have a patch afterward but you do have to put drops in your eye 8 x a da at first. They give you a chart so you know when to put in the drops. Your vision may be blurry for a day or 2 but you will be surprised how clear everything will seem after that. I am 74 and never knew I had so many age spots or wrinkles. LOL

I actually like wearing glasses as they cover up the bags under my eyes.

Hi sallyann, if you type in "cataracts" and do a search under "All Community", there have been a lot of responses to the questions about cataracts. I know since I responded to at least one or two of them, but you will get a lot of information there! I had both eyes done, several weeks apart, and it was one of the best things that I've ever done. I was amazed when I took the patch off (especially after the first eye), I was astounded by what I'd been missing. Clear sharp vision!! I'd needed contacts (glasses, too) since I was a teenager. Now, I can see both distance and up close without corrective lenses of any kind. My experience was the same as elruth. I had no pain at all. Was nervous, of course, since it's your eyes they're working on, but there was no need. I went to a doctor who specialized in cataracts and was highly recommended. That makes all the difference.

Like I had been reborn! Wish I would have had it done when they first appeared in my'40's instead of waiting till 50!
