@Mmsfoxxie

If you are looking for a high calorie burn, spinning will do that.

I ride 5-6 times a week and each session is a 400-800 calorie burn.  You cannot beat that.  That plus a few resistance classes have helped me lose 15 pounds.

@Witchy Woman, I never learned to ride a bike.....or swing in the park as a kid because of that same darn motion sickness I mentioned in another thread.  Woe is me, right, lol.

I had a coworker who agrees with you.  She loves spinning.  At my fitness center everybody that does it raves about it.  They come out totally drenched with sweat with a sense of accomplishment on their faces.

Hi @Laura14. Is the Power a DVD?  I'm looking to increase my strength training and I workout at home.

@ANewHue  Unfortunately, no.  It's a class at the gym.  I remember looking for a DVD that was similar a few years ago and didn't really find it.  I'll have to look again.  For some reason, there just wasn't a whole lot of strength training with bar weights DVDs that I could find.

@Mmsfoxxie  If you have a class at your gym, try it!  I love spin class and the bike doesn't move so you should be okay.  They do go up and down in the choreography but I don't do it sometimes when my back is a bothering me.  It is perfectly okay to just sit and pedal to the music.

The instructor will make sure the bike fits your measurements.  Really great class if you ever want to do a few songs.  Don't have to stay the whole class and, in fact, my instructor threw me out after four songs my first class because she wanted me to ease into it and come back.  Highly recommend.  Smiley Happy

I get up before the chickens and ride my exercise bike for 2.5 hrs. Mon-Fri. and about 4 hrs. total on Sat. and Sunday.   I ride extremely fast but still enjoy many library books while biking.  A good book will have me forget how much time is going by.

 I love ice cream and love being thin so it is a chore but worth it when I fix my bowl of decadence.

You do not have to know how to ride a bike.  They are stationary.  You are peddling with resistance most of the time, and that's what makes the ride difficult.  (I see someone else mentioned this.)

The actualy riding part does not require upper body movement, although I think there are some forms that suggest it.  I don't, no matter what.

You are sitting up right and peddling.  Your head remains still without any sudden movements.

It can be intimidating.  Most come once and never return.  But it's really addictive if you like it.

I would just suggest starting slow, letting your backside get used to the seat (maybe get a pad) and going from there.  It's not for everyone, but I think the limited movement will help keep the nausea at bay.

I will second that big time on the addictive.  I am on my 5th stationary bike and have been riding since 1985.

@Witchy Woman@beckyb1012@Laura14, I always take half of a Dramamine before I ride my home stationary bike.  It's been so long ago, I don't remember if I started taking medication just because I assumed I'd get sick or I actually tried it years ago and actually did get sick and therefore, started taking medication.  Which came first, the chicken or the egg, so to speak, lol.  I'm going to try it at home one day soon to see.

I get absolutely horrendous motion sickness.  OTC medication doesn't touch how bad I get.  I have to get meds from the doctor.

However, I can ride a regular bicycle and a stationary bike without any issue so you may want to give it a try.

@beckyb1012

Wow!  Since 1985!  I've only been riding for 5 years, but was a runner before that.  Riding is a lot more rewarding.

I've been thinking about getting my own bike as I am a very motivated rider, so I know I would stay with it. On days there are no instructors, I take my notebook with downloaded classes and ride with those.

Just curious, what brand of bike do you have?

I've seen Pelaton (?) advertised, but others have said they are not the quality of the spin bikes at the gym.
