I would take it every other day as a maintenance that's my opinion. It will be in your system if you do get sick. I beleive in preventative measures.  My daughter gives it to my granddaughter It boosts her immune system ...Best wishes

I buy 100% pure elderberry extract powder (Bulksupplements brand from amazon) and I take about 1/2 teaspoon everyday starting in the month of October...when the flu season starts. Just mix it in with my green drink (it dissolves completely) along with some other stuff I add to my 'cocktail' of supps.

ETA - That elderberry extract has some dextrin added to it but it doesn't say how much but that's the only other ingredient listed on the label.

My husband and I started taking elderberry juice at the start of the pandemic.  We are 72 and felt we needed all the immunity we could get.  I get ours from The Elderberry Company. Google it and you can find their website.  I had heard you had to be careful and get the full berry strength and this company has it. We now take their chews.  We never got Covid so we did something right. This was before the vaccine was available.

Costco has Elderberry gummies on sale this month.  Gummies with vitamin C and Zinc.  Read about these in a travel magazine.  It recommended to take before a   planned trip.  There are 120 gummies in the container.

I take the gummies daily, except for those occasions I forget to do so.  They're kind of like a tiny treat that's good for you.

Some people take it for daily/maintenance and some will take it only during cold and flu season, or when they get sick.

It's really up to you as to how you want to use it if you decide to use it.

Elderberry has a two-prong approach when it comes to it's health benefits. One thing it does is inhibit the early stages of viral infection by blocking viral proteins needed to infect us. Elderberry also boosts our immune response by providing us with multiple antioxidants found in the berries. These antioxidants absorb free radicals ( those are bad substances formed in our bodies when an infection or other negative acting things happen to us) and in the process allows our immune system to work at its optimal speed and efficiency leading to less inflammation and promoting cell health.

Taken as a supp elderberry can work both as an antimicrobial as well as an antioxidant.
