Has anyone else tried this for the health benefits? I found this online when looking for natural cholesterol lowering products. I ran into it today at a health food store and bought loose and bags.

I hope it works as it does taste good.

A friend got me hooked on this tea about 7 years ago. She told me that her husband lost quite a bit of weight drinking this tea. At the time we were in the process of relocating to another state. I would brew a pot of yerba mate tea in the early morning and drink a couple of cups throughout the day. I was like a human dynamo packing up the house, and throwing things away, I also did not have much of an appetite. Consequently after losing about 15 pounds and not being able to sleep,I discovered the tea is "loaded" with caffeine, and I stopped drinking it. This was my experience with Yerba Mate, Esmeralda, I hope yours is better.

I love Yerba Mate! I buy the individual teabags (Guayaki). It does rev up the metabolism; a former co-worker used it in a weight-loss regimen and turned me on to it.

It definitely gives a caffeine buzz. You let it steep about 5-7 minutes in the cup - hot but not boiling water. The ""ritual"" way is to drink the Mate in a hollowed-out gourd with a straw...

My stepson spent 2 1/2 years in Paraguay in the Peace Corps, and since being back that is about all he drinks. And, in the way that moonstone mentioned.

He always has been thin and energetic so I can't tell any difference between before he drank it and after, but I know he loves it. And he's healthy!

I was hoping for lowering cholesterol and removing plaque from arteries. I have many friends with stints and have had heart attacks.

Well, I showed this tea to two people with heart and artery problems and now they are trying it too. One is going to thow a tea bag in the jug of regular ice tea in her fridge.
