Just a thought, isn't store-bought milk "breast milk from a stranger" (a cow)?

some babies really need the breast milk and the mother can't provide.  not as unusual s you think.

This is a HUGE business that started about 18 yrs ago.

One usually buys the breast milk based on the age of the infant to receive it.

For example if you have a 4 month old you purchase milk from a nursing donor of a 4 month old as the composition of the breast milk changes as the baby ages.

I would be worried about diseases the mother might carry and  drugs she might be taking.  I know that there are milk banks where you can purchase human milk, but can't imagine buying from a stranger on Craigslist.

My daughter has a friend that donates her breast milk.  She goes through a local hospital though.

There's a lot of people that use it.  She has two children and has donated through the hospital each time.

No comparison with pasteurized milk and breast milk. Breast milk can transmit various diseases and STD's. An HIV positive mom can transmit it to their newborn through her breast milk.

I am surprised that it is legal to sell breast milk...

There are organized breast milk banks through hospitals.  They are very necessary for infants who have intestinal or digestive diseases that will not allow them to grow and thrive without breast milk.  Formula, no matter how hybrid, just doesn't help them.  obtaining banked human milk allows the child to grow and develop

Purchasing breast milk from a stranger just seems gross. 

I know there are lots of organization you can donate it to which I would think is a better option.
