For me it's arthritis pain, mostly left shoulder and right ankle. Sometimes hands and knees.Random thoughts, thinking about stuff i need to do, my husband's snoring, having to let my dog out. Usually around 0300 I get up, eat pop tarts with my dog, take Tylenol. Can usually go to sleep after that but then it's hard to get up.

It's a nightly routine.

What are your nightly issues?

@smoochy  Have you tried Arthritis Strength Tylenol at bedtime?  It's stronger than Extra Strength Tylenol and time released so that it lasts 8 hours.  It works well for the arthritis pain in my hands and wrists that used to wake me up.  Just a suggestion.

Do you take this daily?

Yes.  Just the 2 tabs at night is well below the daily limit of 6 tablets for 24 hours.  And I have no other health problems that Tylenol would aggravate. @bargainsgirl

Mostly a too warm house.  Other than that, I don't know; it just sometimes happens.  I've decided I can't take melatonin, so I currently have nothing to help.  I never know ahead of time.  I can be dead tired and almost asleep and suddenly just wake up and can't get back to sleep.  It's maddening.

Worrying. I'm a big worrier and my mind has a hard time shutting off if I have any issues or stresses.

I can usually go to sleep fine but seem to always wake up around 3AM and find myself over thinking and ruminating about things sometimes it's about stresses in life sometimes it's about silly stuff. It can sometimes take me hours to get back to sleep.

Also, do you eat a lot of sugar? I find that if I eat a lot of sugar my finger joints, especially, will stiffen during the night. I could see that stiffness could progress to pain if not addressed.

Sugar is a big inflammatory. Once I gave that up for the most part (I said for the most part....I'm no zealot, haha) I find that I no longer have those issues, but they will return when I eat a lot of sugar....

yes to everything you said about your mind not shutting off, same here.

And I do eat more sugar than I probably should. You make an interesting point.

Re: What keeps you awake at night?

ok so listen guys. During the night when im up and eating pop tarts, I also get on my tablet and sometimes come here.

Now that I know some of you are also awake, we should meet up on the forums for a little bit. Might be able to chill out enough to get to sleep.

@smoochy there used to me the night shift group in the old days. It was fun.  I am in California.  Seems most of you live back East or are 1-2 hours ahead of me.  So by 10 pm PST it's deader than a door nail here.  Maybe posters should meet and start a night shift thread.  It was just postings about anything, no catagories.  You didn't have to go to a specific thread to talk about something. Just night shift and everyone was there!  Well, not everyone, but there were at least 5-7 people at any one given time posting.
