If someone needs the machine and the equipment, they'll adjust to using it.
About 14 yeas ago, I had realized that there was something wrong with the way my husband was breathing when he was sleeping.
He always snored very loudly when he slept, but something had been changing and the noises that he was then making while sleeping were becoming really loud and odd-sounding.
He mentioned it at a doctor's appointment and was referred to a Sleep Specialist.
People who do have sleep apnea don't breathe normally when they sleep.
It sounds like they're snoring when they're sleeping, but they're actually not breathing properly.
My husband does have sleep apnea, and has been using a CPAP machine since he has been diagnosed with it.

Who in heck would sleep with a darn nose thing and a hose on their face? Not me. Even that thing they put inside you for sleep apnea... NO WAY.
@SeaMaiden My son wakes up with his on the floor evry morning. Then sometimes it gets under the bed and when the dog hears the hissing he starts barking at it. LOL
I can appreciate this happening!

Sometimes my husband will do the same thing and not even know it, where he'll take the mask off in his sleep, or I'll find him tangled up in his hose to the machine where he's literally wrapped up in it like he's wrestling with a snake, or he's squishing down on it, if I'm still awake and I'm walking past our bedroom.
I'll hear a louder sound coming from his machine too, because you can hear the air hissing too much from his mask.
I'll then help untangle him from the hose.

I wouldn't use the words "medical community", that can be perceived as more rather than less.
Sounds very similar to one that is nation wide, and making life very difficult and dangerous for many in that profession.

It is a big money maker. They tend to push stuff like that because it is something that you will always need. I am glad you see it. Just like bone density tests and pills, and tons of immunizations. Do your research before you say yes.
The only thing I agree with in your post is your very last sentence.

@colleena wrote:@Porcelain Omg, that is horrible that that company treated you that way - not good when your DH really needs to use the CPAP. I always think in situations like that how many people don't question, keep getting supplies sent & keep paying - you were a lucky one to get out like you did.
I also use a CPAP, hate it but really need to use it & it really does help. The company I get my replacement supplies through sends me an email twice/year listing which supplies they think I might need so I fill the form out, email back to them & they send the supplies/bill Medicare.
Thank you! That whole saga was such a pain in the rear.
I agree about CPAPs. DH's CPAP has been a Godsend. Before he got it, Oh the SNORING!!! And he would suddenly wake himself up with those awful gasping snorts that meant he'd stopped breathing. He could have had a heart attack or stroke. I'm glad he has it as well as his So Clean to clean it.
He uses his CPAP even when he takes naps. Just loves it. Glad you have yours too. It's literally a lifesaver. Your replacment company sounds like a good one.

@Porcelain Agree w/all you have said about CPAP positives.
I'm in the PNW in Bellingham & we have a locally owned pharmacy Hoaglands that I got the machine from & they do the supplies also.
You mentioned your DH uses SoClean ... I have seen lots of negative along w/positive reviews on that. If you don't mind answering what's the positives you two have seen w/his using it? Thanks.

I don't really know much about SoCleans. My dad swears by his and got one for DH as well. I just feel better knowing he's sanitizing his equipment, since he tends to use things until they wear out. It's certainly simple and easy to use. I have no idea what it does! lol Something with ozone?

@Shelbelle wrote:I feel the same way about statin drugs, way over prescribed, must be a payoff in there somewhere.
@Shelbelle You bet they are and a lot of other things. They make between 6 and 8,000 for a Colonoscopy. People need to wake up and realize that some Dr.'s will test and prescribe you to death if you let them.
@BalletBabe My mother died from colon cancer.
I wouldn't knock colonoscopies.

I don't think @Shelbelle was knocking Colonoscopy. Why she decided to use that as a profit maker example I have no idea. Anyone that decides to go the Cologard route in place of a Colonoscopy, in my view, is rolling the dice. There is a Gold Standard and it is not Cologard.
I am not on the doctors money wagon train for writing prescriptions. From my family and close friends relationships with Doctors from a GP or a Specialist Field? I believe and trust them.
For those that want to follow the BIG $$$$$ trail? Look at Pharma and Insurance, that is where you will find much of it.

There is a lot of money to be made on CPAPs; hence, the numerous prescriptions.
