I don't think it's the case where a doctor treats someone like a child. I think it's the patient's perception (family baggage?) that the doctor (authority figure) is going to discipline/yell at the patient.
In HR, I see this parent/child thing all the time. People perceive the company as their parent and expect the parent to take care of them, loan them money, etc. And then when the parent/company makes a business decision that is not in the best interest of the employee/child, look out for the temper tantrum.
