Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Hi tony!!!! Great seeing you again! Now where is FUTURE and a few others??

Was having a wonderful run this morning until an asthma attack kicked in...haven't had one like that in years! Now I'm sneezing like crazy...definitely allergy-induced. All I can is, I'm so grateful to my Allergist that made me take an inhaler even though I said 'I don't need one anymore'. Oh my word, I'm still having trouble!

Doing squats and lunges now and will shower then we'll head to PA, decided to wait until today. They're both working today so not in any rush.

We were 40* again this morning...it's beautiful out, one reason why I felt like I could run forever...well, until I couldn't breath. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}Wink

Hope everyone has a great week!!!!

Hi everyone and happy Sunday! I went for a walk yesterday morning with DH and the dogs...very smoky, but we needed to get outside. (We live just outside the northern border of Camp Pendleton, and Friday night I thought we'd have to bug-out due to the fires. 8k plus were evacuated. The fires on the base are 40ish% contained and way East of us now...) Today we took the dogs on a power walk and trail run. Air quality much better......have some foot nerve pain (%^&^%!) and surprisingly ended up with shin splints. It has been a long time since I have been out walking, let alone jogging, so I need to get used to working the different muscle groups. Jogging on the trail is much different than on the treadmill.

Welcome Mtnbikegirl!

Thank you!

I have shin splints too. I'm so used to doing non-impact exercise (cycling, elliptical) that I joined my son on the treadmill the other night, and OUCH! Now, I stretch them continuously. It can be very painful.

I am on the other side of the country, but I have been watching the news coverage of the CA fires----wow!

btw, I love taking my dog on walks w/ me. He loves it too! Have fun!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

I have not checked in for a few weeks... I am still on track on my goal reaching goal weight of 131.... came in today at 138 1/2. It was SO HARD to get down past the 140 mark! My body just wants to stay right there. I have made little changes in diet just enough to tweak the calories down some a little bit every day. Measuring out my nuts has helped me see what a real normal portion is. Where before I would just sprinkle brazil nuts in my salad... I found out that just 4 brazil nuts has 105 calories! And also that 1 ounce of walnuts is much less than just eyeing it and throwing in the salad. This portioning I think is a big part to why my weight is coming down again. I am still walking and biking for 45 minutes 5-6 days a week.

I have noticed that as I am reaching 60, my body just does not respond to losing weight as it did when I was younger... and it likes to accumulate right in the belly. Funny how that is! I do not want to be super skinny or anything... just a healthy lean weight for my height of 5'8". With double knee replacement it is so vital to keep the weight off, and that in itself is such motivation for staying slim.

Looking forward to June and talking to you all then!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Hi Everyone! Thank you, Patty! I am so not a computer person that when I don't use it, I get out of the habit quickly. Very lucky you had that inhaler! you asked about future- you know she must be taking a nap!! Today was so nice that I went walking. it was 55 with a breeze so I figured the breeze would keep the mayflies away. It was great - lots of birds, everything is greening up, the brooks had water racing and I even had to stop for a train! A very nice 21/2 hours in the boonies of central Massachusetts! Bopper- is your back feeling any better? Nomless- I liked reading about the day off you needed. Good for you! Judy, I was glad to see you checking in. we get to count down with you! Hi to all of our new friends! Enjoy the day!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

It was fun to read several posts today.

Patty, be careful. Hope you're doing better...and that allergy season ends soon.

Gazelle, you're doing great. Slow and steady will get it done. But it would be nice if it happened more quickly, wouldn't it?

Tony, glad you stopped in. Yep, Future probably is taking a nap. LOL.

MickD and Mtnbikegirl, take care of those shin splints.

Hi, Bopper, nothing from you yet today? I hope you're back is starting to feel better.

I'll do cardio tonight. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Hey all, I didn't do a workout again today...another day to let my back loosen a bit. It is getting better but I didn't want to push the envelope either. I had a dentist appt. today and sitting in that chair didn't help it but I asked her for a pillow to put under my low back and that helped and it only took her 35 minutes to clean my teeth.

My GD is spending the night and then I have to take her to school in the morning and then I will grocery shop. Supposed to get over an inch of rain tonight...

Glad to see so many checking in...I really haven't had anything to report...Gazelle nice to see you and your doing great...I am also approaching 60...so your not alone there.

Pppmint so glad you had your inhaler...my hubby has asthma and it isn't fun when you get an attack. Enjoy your time with the kids..

Tony it's OK to not be on the computer all the time..we get so we depend on it and it's a nice break to just not do it for a while.

MickD I get shin splints when I walk outside on the pavement but not on the treadmill. They hurt too.

mtnbikegirl just take care of them and don' t over do it.

FUTURE we are missing you............

Looking like rain already.

I have had tons of Orioles at my feeder and they love grape jelly and oranges so if you want to attract them put out 1/2 of an orange or a lid of grape jelly..they will come.

Have a good night all!

Re: Welcome to the May Exercise Check In

Hi everyone! We're in Pittsburgh again(well, outside of). It was a beautiful drive yesterday but looks like we'll be driving home tomorrow in rain.

Hope everyone's shin-splints, foot, back, etc., are doing better. I'm sore today from yesterday's squats and lunges and my obliques(and back) are sore from an exercise I did on Sunday with weights but sciatica isn't as bad as I expected...really think the yoga stretches are helping it.

I'm going for a run here in a couple of minutes and will stop at gym to do weights but think chest is the only thing I can do...even my arms feel a little sore.

Dil's running shoes are too small...ay. I'll have to go back and return them, it's about 45 minutes from our house. She loves them though so at least I got that right.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Have a great day everyone! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday morning I got up and did a TurboJam DVD and then this morning got up and did the Body Blade work out. That's really good for me - 2 days in a row! LOL

Hope everyone is doing well. Will have to read posts later but wanted to check in and say hi!
