Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Hey everyone, it's partly sunny here in between the snow gently falling, so pretty. I did Treadmill intervals alternating running and walking...something seems off with my left knee. Not from running though, I think I twisted funny sledding yesterday...always something.

Pppmint stand your ground with your coach if you truly do not want to do the games at this point..We will all cheer you on though if you decide to do it! 70 degrees seems like heaven..we're lucky to see that in May! Glad hubby is feeling better too and then there's the little one Smiley Happy Hi Lucy!

Nomless hope you can get over to the workout room and either do treadmill or bike..it's sure nice lighter at night isn't it? I love that!

Not much more to say here,,,I'm without car for who knows how long...it's been like 6 weeks already and I"m seriously getting cabin fever!

Later everyone!

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Well Hi Everyone! VERY happy that the Patriots won- having lost 2 SB by fluke plays, I can sympathize with Seattle but just so glad that it did not happen again. SO fed up with snow. Third Monday in a row of big snows- 33 inches, 20 inches and another 20 today. In the cities they are going crazy cos there is no place to put the snow. People are not even bothering to shovel out their totally covered cars. Boston has cancelled the commuter trains tomorrow- that has never happened! Just crazy. The worry now is roofs- and more snow coming Thursday. Where is spring? Bopper- be careful! I probably won't bother to grocery shop cos the shelves are surely empty! Patty- I was hoping you were not gonna like the treadmill and send it to me! Nomless- I hope your mind is settling peacefully. Judy- ID theft is my biggest fear. I can't imagine going through it twice. Future- oh yeah on the full moon. All ya hear is = "can't make this stuff up!" I know I don't post much but I do keepup. Patty keep writing! I may not have w/o reports but I like reading all of yours. OK friends, stay safe, stay warm, well even you Judy, for you- warm not too hot!

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Hi, Tony! Yay that your team won the SB. The amount of snow is incredible, hope you get warm temps soon....but not too warm, don't want flooding. The workout room was crazy busy, so I did only 30 min. Couldn't take the chaos. Oh, Tony, one more thing... thanks for the good wishes for a peaceful mind.

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Not anymore nomless, temps down over 40* now, 38 mph winds, and a wintry mix is hitting us. Glad you got to hit the work-out room, even if it was chaotic.

Tony, I do love it, it's a lot nicer than my last one. I'll be using it this morning! I've been watching all your snow, my poor gf is -32* again this morning....they haven't been above zero in weeks.

bopper, how's the knee? Maybe just do an upper body strength work-out today and some stretching. I'm going to do some yoga today too. That's one thing I'll say is missing in CF, we go from all-out, to done.

Even dh said they do a lot of stretching with his program. They flipped the big tires yesterday, pushed the sleds, spider push-ups, pull-ups, TRX straps, heavy weights, etc., but they do more mobility exercises. Sounds interesting some of the things they do.

Son and dil bought a house yesterday!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} They are super excited, especially that their dog will have a yard now. I was on the phone with my son when he walked in the door from work and told their dog...haha. The dog was howling and talking back, all excited even if he doesn't have a clue...he just knew daddy was excited so he was too.{#emotions_dlg.blush}

Okay, waving to everyone!! I need to get moving. Supposed to go to a graduation tonight and have to go shopping for some baking I need to do for a dinner Thursday night.

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

You know I love these articles. I'm always surprised to hear people are still worried about "keeping their heart-rate in the fat-burning zone". If you want to get in better shape and burn more calories, you need to toss that myth out the window.

Myth #1: You lose more fat with higher reps...

Use low reps to build muscle, and high reps to lose fat – or so the saying goes. But why? What makes higher reps so special for fat loss? Nothing.

Focus on using exercise to build muscle and to create a favorable metabolic environment for fat loss. Use your nutrition to manipulate your body fat. In the big scheme of things, you burn very few calories from exercise as compared to the rest of your day. Nutrition is number one.

Myth #2: You burn more fat in the "fat-burning zone"...

This exercise myth never seems to die, but it seems that people are finally starting to catch on. The fat burning zone is the idea that you should keep your heart rate within a certain range for more fat burning.

The reason the myth still hangs on is because you do burn a higher proportion of fat in the fat burning zone. However, you do not burn more total calories from fat. In fact, you burn the highest proportion of calories from fat when at rest. Push the intensity, and focus on total calories burned instead.

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Thanks for the notes, Patty. Yep, those are good things to remember. Hmmm, just realized I don't think of weights as a way to burn fat. My goal with weights is to build (or at least maintain) muscle.

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Hey all, I did TG today but was careful with my knee.....it seems weird saying knee because it is behind my knee, not in the front but anyways..I was careful, thanks.

PPpmint thank you for that info....good stuff to know for sure. So happy DS and DIL found a house and that their dog can run around in his big yard. Glad you like your new treadmill too!

Nomless sorry the workout room was crowded but you got a good 30 minutes in so that's wonderful!

Tony you are really getting belted with that snow...We're under an advisory for tonight into tomorrow and high of 0 on Friday and Saturday with maybe blizzard conditions.

Had my hair touched up today,,we're without car so had to have son drive me there and hubby come get me. If it were summer I'd ride my bike but I'm not walking the side of the highway on snowy roads, that's too dangerous.

NCIS tonight.....

Have a good evening everyone!

Re: Welcome to the February Exercise Check In

Hi, Bopper, I'm glad you were cwreful with your knee. I hope it's ok. I was going to do Jari tonight, but I saw something that needec cleaning, then something else, and so on. I've been cleaning for 2 hours! Maybe I burned as many calories moving and scrubbing as I would have with Jari, but I wantd to do weights. Guess they'll be there tomorrow, eh?
