I am thinking of getting one for anxiety & sleep

What do you use yours for?

Has it helped?

It took a long time for me to figure out why anyone would want a heavy blanket.  They're usually advertised as being lightweight as a desirable feature.  When my niece asked for one for Christmas to help with her anxiety, I finally decided they must work like the thunder shirts for dogs.  They fit securely and help dogs overcome their fear of storms.

I was thinking of getting one also. I sleep better w/heavier blankets etc. and it's an issue in the summertime.

Wasn't sure where to purchase one.

my friend has an anxious child who uses one.  It works wonders.  The is a formula for how much the blanket should weigh based on the person's weight.

Amazon sells them.

I have two- one that is cotton for summer and one is a heavier fabric for Winter. I really like them. When I am feeling especially stessed or anxious I grab my blanket and sit on the couch and pet my dog, Grace. Works great.

What's the purpose of a weighted blanket? Is it to keep in place on the bed, or to keep you warm? Never heard of them. Seems like all the shows I have watched talk about how light weight a blanket might be, along with it's warming abilities.

Heard of a lot of weighted things to make moving the body, or body parts harder, but never for covering and/or keeping you warm in bed, or in my case, my recliner in which I sleep.

This is interesting. I never heard of it. I’m going to look it up. I think it’s something I would like.

@Kachina624,i have a friend who's treated for anxiety and uses a weighted blanket.

You are correct in drawing the parallel.

I was told they were originally developed for use on million dollar race horses, that can cause tremendous damage to self.

The same concept has been applied to developing an assortment of garments, blankets, and "contraptions" and used to calm animals in times of stress. It provides the calming effect without resorting to adding drugs to their system.

I previously looked at some online, but they all have to be AIR-DRIED.

Can you imagine how long that would take?
