Re: Week Two of the NFL Regular Season!!!

I was able to find the game streaming online and followed the plays. (Thanks Gardenman.) Congrats to the Eagles! Despite losing two of their offensive players, they still ran up yardage. I'm thinking New Orleans made a mistake in releasing Darren Sproles. He just couldn't be stopped!

Officiating was off. There was a defensive hold on Hilton that wasn't called. It would have negated Luck's interception. Then the horse collar call was highly questionable and shouldn't have happened. But I don't blame officials for losing a game because there are too many other factors involved.

In the end I was wondering why the Colts were running the ball instead of passing. Luck has been inconsistent at times, but when the game is on the line you give the ball to him. Instead, Richardson ran for six yards and then there was another running play where they lost a yard. Should have passed the ball! What was the coordinator thinking? Those two fumbles by Richardson didn't help, either, since one was recovered by the Eagles.

Bradshaw should start. He had an impressive game. Richardson did quite well, except for the fumbles. Things happen, but so far Richardson has started the season on a positive note.

This is the first time the Colts have started 0-2 since 2011. We don't want a repeat of that year. Some people are panicking on the Colt forums. It's not a good start, and I'm concerned, but there is a lot of football to go. I have to admit that I'm not used to consecutive losses. Seems that I've been a bit spoiled. Have to remember: at least this team isn't the Giants.

Re: Week Two of the NFL Regular Season!!!

That little Sproles is nothing but trouble, and now after seeing the Eagles play, I think the entire team is nothing but trouble. They are a team to be feared this season, as I thought they would be. Too bad for the Colts fan that the obvious interference was a no call, but we all have bad calls, or bad no calls made us against us. Congrat on your win Gardenman.

Re: Week Two of the NFL Regular Season!!!

It turns out the obvious interference wasn't. Local reporters have looked at it frame by frame and what contact occurred was within five yards and while Luck still held the ball. The receiver was trying to make a sharp cut and lost his balance and fell. It looked like he was pulled down when seen at full speed but in reality he knocked himself down. He was falling as Luck started the throw, but still held the ball.

Hi Tegan.....sorry about the Colts....I hope I didn't jinx them.....

the interference call was questionable....but the alleged horse collar call---was the one I was upset about!!!! There should not have been a penalty on that one.....these refs are getting as bad as NBA refs----and trust me THAT'S BAD!!!!

I'm sure your team will bounce back ......and I think you ran the ball to help chew some time off the clock ..... but I'd rather see a team mix up the plays, continue to move the ball and pick up first downs rather than run, run, run and then you have to punt.....the Redskins are guilty of that too and it drives me crazy!!!!

The Giants are like a whole roster of the 3 stooges....{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

OH NO and we got the Eagles next!!!!

GARDENMAN has anyone explained the mystery of the Eagles first half slow starts or is this part of Chip's scheme to lull the opposition into overconfidence....

It's just been dumb mistakes in the first half. The Eagles have moved the ball well, but last night there were a lot of dropped passes and penalties that kept us in check in the first half. Last week the offensive line was pretty sloppy to start the game.

Nick Foles has been a little off target and I'm thinking a thumb he dinged in an exhibition game is still bothering him a bit. They downplayed the thumb injury and he insisted he was fine, but I'm betting he sprained the thumb and that's why he's been inaccurate. He's got his normal speed and power on passes so there's nothing structurally wrong with his arm (his shoulder and elbow are fine) but his accuracy is off a bit. A bad thumb will affect a quarterback's accuracy. The good news is he's getting better each week so whatever is physically bothering him is getting better. Quarterbacks often play with a dinged thumb (I think Brett Favre played several weeks with a broken one) and I'm betting that's Nick Foles' issue with his accuracy. He hasn't been listed on the injury reports, but you don't necessarily want to advertise that your QB has a bad thumb. Opposing teams will go thumb hunting if they know there's an issue, so the team will just ignore that there's an issue there and not report it.

The good news for the Colts is their next game is against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That's as bad a team as there is in the league and should be a very easy win for the Colts. Jacksonville is just hopeless this year, so any team playing them can pretty much mark it up as a win. I thought Gus Bradley did a good job with that team last year, but they came out of camp a mess this year. The players may want Blake Bortles as their starting QB, or the coaching staff may have lost the team, but that's not a team playing good football these days.

The Eagles have a couple of testing games coming up with the Redskins and Niners. We'll need to get off to a fast start and maintain that pace all through the game to win those games. The Redskins got a momentum boost playing Jacksonville and you could argue that they're stronger now after their recent injuries. Redskins' reporters quoted in the Washington Post were amazed at how giddy the locker room was after that game. They were expecting a somber locker room after the Redskins lost RGIII and DeSean Jackson. Instead they found a very happy group that didn't seem at all upset at losing those two offensive weapons. It makes one wonder how solid the team is behind those two "stars." I'm thinking the Redskins may prefer not having those guys available. The Patriots were pretty solidly behind the idea that Cousins was by far the best Redskin quarterback after their joint practices. I'm thinking the Redskin players share that belief. I'm also thinking DeSean Jackson's availability may make a lot more sense to the other Redskins now after they've been around him for a few months. I wouldn't be shocked to see him (maybe both of them) gone later this season or in the next off season. I suspect the Redskins got better through subtraction with those injuries.

Hi GARDENMAN, thanks for the info, I think you hit the nail on the head about your Eagles....

As for my Redskins, I think the team would have been happy going with Pierre Garcon, and Andre Roberts as their second WR, and rookie Ryan Grant (5th round pick) as the third option, Grant played really well in preseason which earned him a roster spot....and I am wondering if deep down there is a divided locker room with Cousin supporters being the silent majority....now they get their wish.....and I think the Pat's analysis speaks volumes of where Robert was before the injury struck.....

Rambo was waived, this was his second year and he continued to struggle in preseason and first two regular games, he was benched and the Redskins were frustrated with his inability to tackle and Meriweather is coming back from suspension for an illegal hit.....
