Spurt - nice to hear there are still some left out there (and in TX, no less!) Maybe I'll put some enthusiasm into it this week! I'm not too hopeful, though. I've been a fan since the Billy/Sonny/George Allen days and I remember (vaguely) what winning was like.

Here is a lesson in futility---my picks
Texans/Colts-Andrew Luck is on a roll and so are the Colts. The Texans disappointed me on defense last week, and the Texan's offense is nothing to write home about--COLTS
Pats/Bills-Which Pats team will show up, and the Pats were under a great deal of pressure from the media and the fans to win last week...Bills are going with Orton as their QB and they are at home, for some reason going with Sheltie Mom's BILLS
Panthers/Bengals-Battle Of The Cats---AJ Green is hurting and the Bengals did not look too impressive, still I just don't trust the Panthers and they were lucky with their win. Going with my cat Figgy's BENGALS (she guaranteed a win)
Steelers/Browns-The Steelers barely beat the Jags who have been the punching bag for the NFL, and the Browns had an impressive come-back win. The Browns have a good defense, and Hoyer seems to be rolling along on offense now. THE BROWNS!
Pack/Dolphins-Aaron Rodgers is BACK and so seems to be the Pack, going with the PACKERS!
Lions/Vikings--this game is a toss up.....Megatron is hurting and will not play, the Lions are an underachieving bunch. Vikings going back to rookie QB Bridgewater---going with the Vikings because I can't trust the lions and Vikes at home...
Broncos/Jets--lets see a high flying team with Peyton Manning and a good offensive cast, a good defense, against the Jets who do not seem to care---BRONCOS in a big win!
Ravens/Bucs-Sunshine won't let me pick her team since I'm a jinx, so under protest, BUCS
Jags/Titans-TITANS!
Chargers/Raiders--Chargers seem to be an underrated team that is performing well, and well the Raiders are on yet another coach--CHARGERS
Redskins/Cards-Redskins have a lot of injuries in particular---LT Trent Williams and Luavoro Polumbus who are on the O line, on defnese-Ryan Clark, Riley, and Rak and Hatcher....not sure who will be ready to play...The Redskins may get TE Jordan Reed who is very talented but often injured....The Cards have their own injuries a CB, RB, and their QB had a concussion but allowed limited practice, Palmer is battling that nerve problem. I'm goiing to be a homer and picking my REDSKINS--dont exactly know why!
Bears/Atlanta-NFLN Analyst and former Ravens coach, Brian Billick compared Cutler to Jeff George---OUUUCH!!!! I'm not a Jay Cutler fan, FALCONS!
Cowboys/Seahawks - Now that the Cowboys have found success with their running game, Garret comes out saying they will probably change the offense a bit and run a bit less (to save Murray wear and tear) putting Romo back in the hot seat. Their defense has been playing surprisingly decent...BUT they are playing at the home of the 12th man, and Wilson seems to be feeling more comfortable and is upping his play...and of course the Seahawks are known for their D--SEAHAWKS!
Giants/Eagles--Since Sunday is my DS (the Giant's fan) birthday, she made me promise to cheer for the Giants to win....BUT that may work to your advantage GARDENMAN since I may actually JINX her Giants----Wonder how the Eagles are doing injury wise ---GIANTS
49ers/Rams-in the past this was a good divisional game, but the Rams have fallen on hard times and the 49ers just don't look right, their are rumors of discord in the locker room, and Colin K hasn't played that great either....but gotta go with the 49ers!

I had to get up early, so didn't watch the whole game. The Colts had a sizeable lead, so I was surprised to see that final score was 33-28. In a way, I don't feel too bad about missing the game; I would have been too nervous, with the score so close. At least I can rest Sunday and enjoy the rest of the games objectively.

Hi Tegan....CONGRATS on your win!!! The Colts were blowing out the Texans 24-0 in the first quarter. Runs by Arian Foster brought them back in the game. A fumble and and a return by JJ Watt pulled the Texans within 5, but the Texans QB fumbled with 2 minutes left icing the victory. Your WR TY Hilton had a great game as did Andrew Luck!!!!

Hi Sweetbay magnolia....oh how I long for the days of Joe Gibbs, the Smurfs, the hogs....and the national defense.....SIGH!

Yes, SPURT, it's just not the same. Even the fight song has changed to be (I suppose) more PC.
Ha ha - I recall being at RFK when Roman Gabriel was at QB for the Eagles, against Billy Kilmer (I was very young). It snowed the whole day, and me and my Dad were just past the overhang, so we got dumped on all afternoon. 'Skins won and we all needed hours to thaw out. I won't go into the apparent irony (objections to the mascot). Wonder what Mr. Gabriel would say now.

And it's game day!!! My early games are either Pittsburgh/Cleveland or Green Bay/Miami. I'm not thrilled with those options, but hopefully one or both will be good games. Then we get Dallas at Seattle. That will be an informative game to watch. Can the Cowboys stand up to Seattle? Can Seattle hold the Cowboy's running game in check? It'll be fun to see.
Then we have the Giants at Philadelphia for the Sunday night game. Lots and lots of trash talk flowing this week between these two teams. It'll be interesting to see which team backs up the talk. I think this is the first time all season where the Eagles have started the same five offensive linemen two weeks in a row. Expect to see the Eagles special teams come up big in this game. The Eagles played very well early on against the Rams last week getting up 34-7 only to take their foot off the gas and let the Rams climb back into the game. (You'd think the Eagles were 1-4 instead of 4-1 listening to the local media/fans.) If they get off to a similar start this week, don't expect to see the foot come off the gas. NFC East games are typically hard fought, close games. Each team seems confident they can take advantage of the other team's weaknesses. It should be a fun game to watch.

Hi Gardenman,
well since the Texans played on Thursday they are usually the AFC game in our area....so now we got Denver/Jets.....which should be an annihilation, so I would have been happier with Steelers/Browns...
Looks like I will go Redzone for the early games....and then off to my DS's for Giants/Eagles game....
