Re: Want some advice on beginning exercise program --- who can offer suggestions?

The Marie Osmond item QVC sells is called BodyGym, and for only $46 it seems to be a great way to start.  Read the reviews and see what you think.  Apparently the resistance bands eventually wear out but those are easily replaced at any sports type of store.

I am your age and purchased Marie Osmond's body gym device.  This is the first piece of exercise equipment that works for me. I needed something that was low impact because I have a reconstructed leg and other heath issues.  It works for me because you can use it laying in bed, sitting in a chair or standing/leaning against a counter. You can exercise for any  length of time from 5 minutes on. I have seen results so I was thrilled. This works for my needs.

@Fressa

2 questions --- is it expensive and does the Q sell it?  Thanks for the suggestion!

@AngelPuppy1  Yes they do and I agree it's a wonderful, easy device.

Search Item F12065 for $46.  They will probably have it on at some point today with her here but you can watch the video and grab yours now if it is something you might like.  They sold out last year.  I got it this time last year and big thumbs up from me.

I know I need to check with my doctor first before beginning.  Those familiar with my posts know that I am 65, and not been able to exercise for a good while due to various health issues.  I am in need of something to do which will give me some sort of physical fitness.  I know I need to start slow.  I also need to lose a few pounds --- after holidays I gained a bit.

I am not a swimmer and don't have access to a pool.  I used to walk a lot but haven't been able to since having a long-standing ankle issue.  I can now proceed with a bit of walking but not much.

Can anyone recommend any exercises, devices, equipment, or things that I could do or use?  With the new year I really want to do something to get me started slowly to improve my physical health, get some conditioning, firm up a bit and lose a bit of weight.

I would prefer to be able to do  things at home.

Any and all suggestions and tips would really be appreciated!!!!!

you might benefit from a couple of sessions with a good personal trainer,  who can supervise you as you begin.

@jackthebear

I don't know if this is something I can afford.  Maybe my doctor can give me some suggestions of who to contact or where to go.  Thanks!

I understand, but look at gyms around you there may be some NY specials.  and it's an investment   in you (I sound like a Q host sorry) and if you get hurt by jumping in yourself it would be more expensive

Re: Want some advice on beginning exercise program --- who can offer suggestions?

Angelpuppy:  The Q sells Marie's exercise bar-Body Gym.  It's around $40. Fit my budget and it works. It's easy to do so that's what got me started. I have tried so many times before and purchased other equipment that is just gathering dust. The best thing about this is that I didn't need to know anything about what not to do or to do. I could just look at the pictures. I could also go at my own pace and I finally felt guilt free from the burden of knowing what I should be doing and what I actually was doing.  Good Luck with whatever you decide.

You might want to check your local PBS stations and see what they offer. Ours offers various exercise programs. One show is called "Sit and Be Fit", which would be a gentle way to get started.  Here's the website which also has schedule info: http://www.sitandbefit.org/

You can also subscribe so you can watch it from home any time.

From their website:
