A careful reading of the original article about best ways to sit contains no info from any doctor about spreading one's legs extremely wide while sitting.
The recommendation simply said a good way to sit might be setting one's legs in the "eleven o'clock and one o'clock position".
That's not very far apart for the legs, and it makes sense that it would put less strain on the thigh/hip position.
I know from personal experience that, because I'm a side sleeper, I sometimes wake up with pain in one hip or the other, until I get up and move around for a few minutes..
It's probably best (for me) to keep a support pillow between the knees and legs if sleeping on one side all night. This obviously evens out pressure on hip and knee joints.
So far I don't have any hip or knee problems that require medical intervention and go thru the rest of my day pain-free in those areas.
But like I said..........."so far". LOL!!
