As far as pregnancies are concerned I still get the heavy apron/bib put on me when I have x-rays taken at my dentist. I don't understand why I need the protective covering. I am past the age of pregnancy. Even if I wanted to be like grandma I couldn't because there is no uterus.
@lgfan The heavy lead apron at the dentist is used to protect your vital organs from "scatter radiation".
As far as the xray machines they are quite safe generally but there is a small percentage of radiation dispersed from them.
@LindaSal @Igfan Yes! It's for protecting all organs from cancer. I'm surprised that this is not widely known.

Just recently registered on-line for my mammogram.
Practically the first question was what sex are you... 3 different answers as multiple choice.
male.....female.....other.....
Looked at my DH and said, I figured that was coming on all our forms now.
Yes, nothing's the same as it was in the olden days. At least for me. ![]()

I've seen this too- So stupid, but some medical offices want history that is not applicable to their practice and none of their d@mmm bizness-

Mammograms are done on male patients. Men also get breast cancer.
This is not unusual. When I worked in health insurance, most male mammograms were denied by the system. When we received a call from the patient or doctor explaining the claim was correct, we adjusted the claim to pay.
We also paid claims for mastectomies on men.

It might be a “waste of time” in most cases, but not always.
I once answered “yes” to some of the depression questions and my doc discussed it with me.
It part of the standard form, regardless of the reason for the visit.
When you go to the doctors for a med check, or for whatever reason, the wellness exam is given in addition to the office visits.
The doctor gets paid for both as two different visits and the wellness exam pays a higher amount, than the regular office visits. They get paid for you to fill out a form and draw a clock.
Depression is a medical problem and the doctor will/should discuss.
What is the doctor going to do if you're short on money and food? If you're lucky, maybe they will have a pamphlet to hand you on getting monetary help, but probably not.

They give you the questionaire as soon as you arrive and it must be filled out in it's entirety before the Doctor will see you.
It seems like every year, more questions are added. They are now probing alot of mental issues, living arrangements and activities in addition to your sexual habits. What you are describing appears to me the Medicare Wellness test. The government put this test out there and Medicare pays a large fee to the doctor's to give this test.
I think when I am given the test this spring, I will say I am afraid to be be alone in my house and don't feel safe, I am having financial difficulties and I don't have enough food and I fall down a lot.
What is the doctor going to do with this info? It's a waste of tax dollars.
My cognitive abilities are just fine, but maybe I will go to the appointment with two different shoes on the wrong feet and unmatched socks and with my shirt and pants on backwards. (sarcasm)
Priceless comment.
I would not have the nerve to do that BUT wish I did.
I would be afraid that if I did, I would have visitors at my house to survey my living conditions and contents of my house and I would be subjected to countless testing for years to come.
All fun and games until it becomes a permanent part of your health chart and good luck getting it removed...
Since I can see my records on the patient portal, I noticed that there is a lot of incorrect information.
A few doctors have said they discussed something with me and I refused their help. That was news to me. The issue was never brought up. They lied!
Also, date of treatments and diagnosis are wrong, some by years. I can get my records corrected, but I don't care. It's no big deal to me.
If a doctor wants to code my file that I have dementia, big whoop. No one is going to do anything about it.
My sister recently passed. She was 86 and had many medical issues. She went downhill after a fall. She had dementia too.
Her death certificate says she passed from kidney disease. Huh... I called her doctor to question this. He said she did not have kidney disease. But, now it's filed away with the state as her cause of death.
There is lots of incorrect info on our medical records....that's scary. No wonder mistakes are made that kill people.

It could also be something as simple as this is a formatted form the office manager orders in bulk from their forms supplier.
It's definitely a possibility.

I had my appointment this morning. When I checked in with the receptionist, I asked her why I received questions about my sex life.
She said she had no idea. She could see that I used the check in on the portal and that I verified their info was correct on their end with my insurance, name, DOB and address. Then she went over the same thing....name address, insurance.
When I got back into the surgical room, I was weighed and had my blood pressure taken.
At that time I asked why I was asked those questions. She had no idea and never knew those questions were on the check in on the portal.
After the surgery, she was cleaning up my hair and she said she was curious of what was on my records. She invited me to look at her computer and there was an area that asked about sexual history, etc.
My answer on those questions were blank. Defer was highlighted. So, the office has no idea why I was asked and they have never had a patient mention this before.
There were many questions on her PC that were not filled in on my history. She said different types of providers would use those areas and no one provider used all of them.
So, she thought maybe there was a glitch in the system. The answers to those questions weren't needed and weren't recorded anywhere.
I was surprised that there was no paperwork for me to fill out except a patient permission slip for the doctor to provide the surgical service.
I got my procedure, was stitched with disolveable sutures, and had a big glob of blue surgical glue applied. No shaving of my scalp, but when I got home, my shirt was covered with very long strands of hair...quite a few...a small handful. He cut my hair away. I hope I won't have a bald spot there.
My waist length hair was cut last month to half way down my back. I hope I don't need a short haircut to blend in where he snipped. I can't tell with all the blue glue he applied.
