@Luvsmyfam  So sorry to hear this. I once knew a guy who went through the same thing. He was so mad his doctor didn't order any tests to find the cause of the vertigo he changed doctors.

    • Tilt yourself backward until you are lying on your back. Your head should still be at a 45-degree turn.
    • Turn your head 90 degrees toward the ear that has the least vertigo. In this...

Hi Sherrikay,

I'm sorry this happened to you. Did it come on suddenly? I had this happen about four years ago. I woke up in the middle of the night, with dizziness, and I had no clue where it came from. After numerous trips to the doctor, I was told that it was a viral infection and would go away on its own. I will tell you though, it took a sweet time going away. Little by little the dizziness went away after a month. It could also be due to crystals in the ear. It's a bummer that you had to miss your date. I'm sure you were disappointed. If it doesn't go away in a few days, I would call an ENT doctor.

The Epley maneuver also worked for me.  I had it done by a vestibular specialist at the ENT office.  It was the only thing that worked for me.  Vertigo can be caused by an inner ear problem that is a result of calcium breaking free in the inner ear which sends confusing messages to your brain about your body's position which causes vertigo.  I have a friend who recently had this performed by her doctor and it solved a problem she had for weeks that wasn't resolved by medication or other treatment.  I hope you feel better soon.

Back around the late 1980s and then again around 2005/6 I went through several phases of positional vertigo.

Doc prescribed meclizine ... worked for me.

If the Doctor gave you Anti-vert, it's pretty much useless and Dramamine will work just as well without the drowsiness.

I get the crystals in the ear on occasion.  Usually happens suddenly like when I turn over at night and the world starts spinning.  Last year I had an extended bout and went to my Ear Doctor's balance & fall clinic.  The lady ran several tests on me, a couple with a helmet-like thing on my head that measured what my eyes did following certain movements.  She did perform the Epley maneuver on me, but I leaerned a couple of things.  First, I always thought the movements were supposed to be done quickly and that is not the case.  Second, she said it was important to know which ear was the problem and to start the maneuver with that ear or else it could make it worse.  I can never tell which ear is the one affected.

Lately, I'm often dizzy first thing in the morning.  I have to sit on the edge of the bed a little bit before standing up and walking. A lot of that may be sinus related since I also often wake up with headaches and Sudafed, either just Sudafed or Sudafed +Pain depending on if I have a headache) helps.

If it continues, your Doctor should check you for Meniere's disease.  There's no cure for it, but there are effective treatments.   I have a friend that has that.

@Luvsmyfam We've had our disagreements in the past but I sympathize with your health issues.  I too have been suffering with that strange but awful dizzy feeling off and on since the end of August.

I don't know what to tell you but here is what I have experienced....at first I thought it was the new mattress that I got in August.  (New mattresses have a lot of chemicals like fire retardants that some people could be sensitive to.). So we encased the mattress in plastic and I added both a mattress protector and mattress pad.  It seemed to work for a few weeks but the dizziness came back.

Next I thought that maybe I was dehydrated....that can cause a light headed feeling.  I have been drinking lots of fluid & water and have been taking electrolytes but still it came back.  So I just don't know what to do.

I have a doctors's appointment in the beginning of December and I decided to keep a journal of when and how severe my symptoms are to see if there is a pattern.

It's very scary and unsettling when this happens.  One can't help but wonder what is wrong with them!  However it seems that it's really not uncommon if that makes you feel any better and it's usually not a serious illness causing it.

ETA:  Today I feel great!  fingers crossed that it stays that way!. Hope you're feeling better soon.
