So I've been at it a week or more now maybe? Last night I looked at my teeth and went wow they're white. Much whiter than they've been in a long time.
I am NOT saying the olive oil is doing this. I have also switched to a non-flouride toothpaste like some of you recommended but that's only been less than a week so I'm thinking it has to be the oil.
Much easier to do in the morning like some of you recommended. And I'm getting through it better.
Anyway, cosmetically, thumbs up so far.

I think oil pulling is a good thing...but what is the science behind making teeth whiter?

Why did you choose olive oil, coconut oil is usually recommended.

@Laura14 Fascinating to hear! Like you, I don't care for coconut either. You are kind of tempting me to give VOO a swirl (get it?).
Have read about it, but you are the first to actually try it and report back with positive results in detail.
Great to have other posters provide the tips for easier use, too. Thanks.

@Laura14 Most people say that they found whiter teeth to be the case after oil pulling as well.

When I was at Aldi's, I looked for sesame or sunflower oil but couldn't find them. I bought a small jar of coconut oil and have been trying the process. As I made breakfast, I was swishing away for 12 minutes. Don't know if it will improve my teeth and gums but it is worth a try.

Folks, if you are using coconut oil to oil pull, please remember to NOT spit this down your drains. Coconut oil solidifies at a particular temperature range, which can equal clogging up your plumbing. In fact, spitting any of the oil pulling oils down the drains is probably not a great idea, although some oils remain liquid at lower temperatures. The oil can still coat the plumbing over time and pick up other substances and cause clogs though.
By by the way, technically, sesame oil is the Ayurvedic choice for oil pulling. I purchased but have not yet used, an oil blend from Uncle Harry's that uses a blend of sesame and coconut. I was wondering if anyone has done the oil pulling and noticed a distinct improvement in gum health?

I tried this with coconut oil. I didn't really notice much difference in whiteness but gums seemed better. I didn't keep it up as I didn't like the oilly feel in my mouth. Also, being a lifelong weight watching person I worried about the additional calories seeping in.
Tried charcoal....that was a big mess and a big no.

@phoenixbrd Just reporting my own experience here, no science
@software I don't like the taste of coconut. Never have. Olive oil is probably more in line with my Italian heritage anyway. I always have it on hand.

@ThinkOutsidetheBox That's my main goal here. Next dentist appointment is in December so I hope I'll report back with some good news.
