Re: Update on my Knee replacement issues

@SeaMaidenwrote:My prayers are with you. My goodness you have been through so much....TOO MUCH....and another major surgery looming with replacing the knee. THEN THE ISSUES WITH YOUR KIDNEYS....🙁 Are you staying with the same surgeon who put in the knee replacement that got infected? Do you feel comfortable with that decision if you have decided on using him again?

Thanks for your prayers. The surgeon is in the same office as the surgeon who did the initial surgery but he is the specialist who does these kind of repairs.

@Goodie2shoes You are on your way!   I know this is more than tough but every day you are one day closer to having this behind you.     Keep your positive thoughts going!   You are an inspiration.  Thank you for the update.

I am curious, do the doctors know how one gets an infection this long after the surgery?   I always thought if you made it that far, you were safe from the risk of infection.

Re: Update on my Knee replacement issues

@Memebell I'm curious about that too.  I do know that my dentist requires me to take antibiotics the day of my visit because of the implants, so maybe infections are not that uncommon?  I had knee replacement last year and on my last visit to the ortho they gave me a prescription with instructions to take 4 pills when visiting the dentist.

For those who recall my previous post about having surgery to remove the knee hardware due to a staff infection I just wanted to provide a update.  I had the surgery 6/26, had been on home IV antibiotics via a picc line. after being on the antibiotics for a month the antibiotics caused problems with my kidneys so I spent 6 days in the hospital (8/4 thru 8/9) on IV's to clear my kidneys. I have now been released from the infectious disease specialist, saw the  Ortho 8/18, off the knee brace and TED stockings, still on the walker, x rays good, will see the Ortho in 1 month to evaluate how it's going and if I am getting closer to having the knee replacement redone.  As I said before, all of this started 7 months after the initial right knee replacement, big surprise !  I am going to get through this, the Lord is with me. Please keep me in your prayers

@Goodie2shoes @One of my closest friends is currently going through the EXACT same thing.

The doctor didn't know how the infection started but said there is always a chance for infection after these types of surgeries.  They advise to take a antibiotic prior to any dental surgery, colonoscopy or other procedures to help prevent infection in the joint.  I had no other prior procedures before this happened.
