I have been taking Trulicity for weightloss since mid August. I did not have pre-diabetes. I was just unable to lose weight despite a healthy diet. With my health issues, I can't exersize enough to push my body into weight loss mode. I chose Trulicity over Ozempic because Ozempic had more possible side effects. I have lost 32 pounds since August. I was taking the lowest dose, my doctor increased the dose last week.  I'm still in my wellness program for support.  I get an occasional wave of nausea and I very little appetite so recreational eating or eating something because it looks good just doesn't happen now.  I hope to lose 33 more pounds over the winter.

Re: Trulicity for weightloss

@chrystaltree  I can not imagine having to feel nauseous or have a lack of appetite feeling sick from a drug as a way to live the rest of my life to lose and keep off weight.  It just Sounds depressing.  I doubt that will be a good incentive for most people.

@chrystaltree

Wishing you continued success on your weight-loss journey. Everyone's body is different and lMO, losing weight is not just about eating less, moving more. When someone says just walk and the weight will melt off, I think good for you that walking worked you...but it's not the magic answer for everyone.

Working with a credible doctor and having your progress checked, seems like a good plan. I know nothing about the different weight-loss pills/programs that are being offered right now. I think it's nice people are sharing their experiences so other people can ask their pcp about the efficacy of using for themselves. Re: waves of nausea,  those can be annoying and inconvenient. I have that issue due to gallbladder removal. The nausea is what impacts my appetite and I eat something very bland and not very much.

Being overweight can impact a person's overall physical health as well as impact their mental health. Being depressed about being overweight, worrying about not losing fast enough and/or worrying about regaining.  As you probably are only too aware, the keeping off the weight can be even more of a challenge than losing the weight. Hopefully working with your doctor there is a maintenance program too.

Again, hoping your journey meets your expectations. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't say I was nauseous 24/7 or feeling ill.  I feel great!  I said OCCASIONALLY, I get a wave of nausea.  Meaning a couple of times a week and it passes in seconds.  I can only speak for my self but "fat & jolly" with diabetes and joint problems isn't the future I envision for myself.  I have several conditions that are a risk factor of obesity.  I already feel the positive effects of losing just half the weight.  My heart rhythm is normal again.  My blood sugar which wasn't problematic is down to 5.2.  My blood pressure is in the normal range for my age.  I'm confident that additional weight loss will take much pressure off my knee and I'll be able to ditch the cane and get back to my walking regimen.  I'm only 62 and I'll do what it takes to reclaim my health.  Depressing is being 62 and waking up feeling like you are 82.  Of course something like this is not for everyone because there obesity is complicated and individual than most people realize.  But it is an option for SOME people.

Thank you.  I have 4 great grandkids and I want to be an active grandmother.   Actually she recommended Trulicity BECAUSE I've been in a medical wellness and weightloss program for 6 years. Meal replacements and shakes supplement our own lean proteins and produce. There are weekly support meetings. I lost 30lbs in that but after the first year, I've only maintained my weight. My body won't shed more pounds. It's not uncommon with older overweight people who can't do aerobic exercise.

Re: Trulicity for weightloss

@chrystaltree I am happy that you posted this. I posted my weight loss experience using a similar drug. Mounjarno and I had some negative feedback. I also experienced some nausea, gas, and I have a decreased appetite and no cravings, so overeating does not happen to me either.

I am followed very closely by my Endocrinologist and Primary MD. I have lost 34 pounds since I started. I am very happy with the results that I have.

The literature that I read about these type of drugs, is that they are a game changer for people who struggle with obesity. In the medical community now, obesity is being treated as a disease and not one of willpower to avoid and limit foods. Obesity and its effects are deadly and we as a society need to look at it as the disease that it is. Most of it is genetic.

You may want to ask your MD for Zofran to help with the nausea. My MD gave me that. I started a new dose of Mounjano on Friday and I have not had nausea or any other side effects except the appetite suppression.

Good for you that you have lost weight, I bet you feel better. I am getting used to my new metabolism too.

Please don't let your feeling get hurt by how people reply, I was a little hurt yesterday when I read some of the replies to my post. Those people obviously don't know, care to understand, or understand the new science around the treatment of obesity.

All as I know is that I have many positive things happening to me because I have lost weight and intend to continue with my MD's following me.

@chrystaltree

I'm interested in this. I changed my diet.

I eliminated all sugar and salt. Eat whole clean foods and limited meat. I eat mostly salmon and chicken with vegetables. No high sugar fruits. Mostly, blueberries  or strawberries. Limited dairy and not many grains or carbohydrates. I have lost 35 pounds. It took me 6 months. I'm seeing my Endocrinologist tomorrow. My A1C was 5.8, which they now call pre-diabetic. I'm going to ask about these medications. This is taking me a long time to lose the weight. I still need to lose 50 pounds. Like you. I just cannot exercise much. My Arthritis pain just won't let me!  What is the "Wellness Program" that you're in?

Wow! To anyone that has struggled with obesity, we know the struggle is real! I wish you all the very best and continued weight loss success! One thing we know not all things work for everyone and you must find what works for you!

if I may ask, once you hit your goal, what is the maintenance/wellness plan? For me that is the hardest part!

My doctor said she could prescribe Zofran if the nausea was a problem but it really is just a wave that lasts about a minute. It happens just a couple of times a week. My doctor mentioned Mounjaro as another treatment if the Trulicity didn't work out.  I've been overweight all my adult life.  Overweight, obese, mobility obese.  I've been all of them. This is the first time I have felt "heard" by doctors.  Good luck and good health on your journey.

Re: Trulicity for weightloss

@chrystaltree  Me too and I am 64. My A1C was 6.3 now it is 5.4. Diabetes is in my family big time. I lost weight on WW but after mom got sick, and I was her caregiver, I lost the ability to go to the meetings, and we ate out a lot becuase we went from the hospital, nursing home, work etc.

To the person who asked what the long-range plan is, I will probably have to stay on a maintenance dose. Right now the medication that I am on is not approved for weight loss, only diabetes but many doctors are prescribing it for weight loss. It is expensive but if you are on commercial insurance Lilly has a coupon for $25 per month which has worked for me.

Chrystaltree I have also used Ginger for nausea. I buy them from "Pink Stork" on Amazon, I like the raspberry/ginger flavor. They help with nausea. I started on Sept 2, 2022. I do not get much nausea now. I tend to feel full fast.

Funny, when I started, I went to Endocrinology because my new primary MD was concerned because I have a history of pituitary tumors that are in remission. She sent me to Endocrinology.

When I went there they asked me what they could help me with. I said "to lose weight". What I did not know, is that he specializes in metabolism. What a God send to me. I have struggled for so long, and now have doctors that are helping and advocating for me. It is like a new start for me. I feel so much better.
