UPDATE: Please see a post from 1-26-22 for an update for those who are interested.
Has anyone taken Triazolam (Halcion) for a dental procedure? If so, can you tell me about your experience with it?
I am having a crown replaced tomorrow that was just put on in November. It never fit right so is being replaced. My tooth was incredibly sensitive plus it took 4 shots to numb me. Even during the procedure, I would still sometimes feel sensitivity, and I was gripping the arms of the chair so hard that my knuckles were white. lol When I found out that it was going to have to be replaced, I told my dentist that he was going to have to put me out, because I couldn't take the sensitivity issue again. (As a side note, I have gone to this dentist for 20 years and never had issues before, and I've had other crowns, an implant, fillings, etc.--it's just this one tooth with sensitivity.)
So I am taking one .25mg Triazolam tonight before bed and two an hour before my procedure tomorrow. In addition, I am to take the extra two pills with me to the appointment just in case, and I am also having the gas. Will I be so out of it by the time I get there that I'll just sit happily in the chair while the shots take effect, or will I be awake enough and able to focus that I should take a book to read, or ??? Just wondering what to expect. My husband is taking me and picking me up and is staying with me all day.

Halcion seems to be the new knock out drug for dental procedures. He gave you a low dose, so you should be fine. I would take the nitrous gas myself. The effects of Halcion depends on your drug tolerance.

I believe triazolam only has a half llife of 2 hours so you should be fine in the AM.My dentist does conscious sedation and I believe it was part of the cocktail that was given to me. I had a massive amount of work done with little to no memory of it. DH did need to take me home afterwards though because they wouldn't let me drive or leave on my own. I'm told i muttered when asked how I felt afterwards "I'm a child of the 60's, this is nothing. LOL!

I am getting the gas, too.

@reiki604 that is hilarious! I'm going to tell them that I am not responsible for anything that I say while under sedation. Lol

For what it's worth, I am very difficult to numb on my upper back teeth area. I was told to always instruct my dentist to numb "high." I get two shots in the traditional area around the affected tooth. The third is put in the roof of my mouth. It works. I don't feel anything during the procedure.

@Ainhisg ... because of childhood experiences just the sound of the drill cause me to grip the chair ... the dentist peels my hands off the arm of the chair. I've had numerous shots of novacane plus gas and I'm still on the edge. I just want a dentist who will knock me out, do everything that needs to be done then wake me up. I believe that's called a dream come true ... I am at the stage now I can barely afford visits. Their fees are comparable to the purchase of new car and at 73 I question the value of some of the procedures. Jmo ...

I've never tried Halcion for a dental procedure but if it works for you, I may try it next time. {*_*}. I always white knuckle every dental procedure. I HATE going to the dentist. (And I have a VERY nice one... female.)

I get traditional Novacaine, works for me, nothing stronger needed. Not for root canals or extractions either.

Do you have sensitive teeth? As I stated in my original post, I've had lots of dental work done by this dentist many times including an implant, crowns, and fillings. This is the first time I've had an issue as this particular side of my mouth and these particular teeth are very sensitive.
