Tresiba insulin

[ Edited ]

Anyone taking this??? I seem to have high blood sugars in the morning...will try taking after 8:30 am...as this could be from the Dawn phenomenon. which means my blood sugar rises and then tapers off after 8:30..I've been taking 10 units and will try to increase that dose too. I will be back on the Lantus...when its available. I never had trouble with it!

Thanks for any help! I got this information from Tresiba.com.

It was 296 this morning at 9:45...will be calling my doctor tomorrow...this is so depressing! Woman Sad

I've never used Tresiba. When I was using lantus and not on my insulin pump I split my lantus dose and took half morning and half evening. I did that because I was having lows from taking it all at once.
I'm sorry you're frustrated and your BG is so high. This is a daily thing for me bing Type 1. I can't even get frustrated anymore because I deal with it so much. I'm in perimenopause and my BG swings are maddening. I normally walk twice a day which can help but I'm having foot pain and having to rest it right now. I woke up with a BG of 220 which is actually not horrible for me.

Maybe you can find a forum for diabetes where someone could  give you some advice on Tresiba.

How many carbs did you eat last night?  I've been taking Lantus SoloStar insulin and at 28 units my morning blood sugar was 113.  I had a small hot fudge ice cream sundae last night and my blood sugar was 194 this am.

I found a forum about Tresiba users!,...most of the reviews were very bad!!!!...very high BS's dizziness, headaches, pain, sweating, blurred vision...etc. Wish I'd read that before I took it today..anyway...thats it for me. I'll call my doctor and pray she can get some Lantus for me. I'm so sorry you're having problems too...do you have neuropathy? I have it in my feet..I will keep you posted. Woman Happy

I don't remember how many carbs I had last night...I don't even remember what I had to eat...mostly cheese slices.I'm actually afraid to eat now..just drinking lots of water. Isn't that sad that a small hot fudge ice cream sundae can raise your blood that much! Bless your heart..since you were taking Lantus I'm surprised it got that high..! I guess I was pretty lucky with Lantus..! Take care! Heart

Are you under the care of an endocrinologist @emmygrace ? Basaglar is the newer recommendation over Lantus which insurance companies seem to cover more readily.

After fifty years of Type 1 diabetes I can tell you that you need to adjust your insulin and do it quickly. For about a year, I have read you are often experiencing very high blood sugars. Eventually, well I don't want to frighten you but something is going to happen. From what you are posting basal insulin isn't enough and you need mealtime insulin too. It will even out your blood sugars and you can lead a healthier lifestyle. Fasting should be consistently under 120. Desserts? The best thing I ever did was consider them poison because no amount of insulin covers them for myself.

Have you ever thought of a visit with a diabetes educator? I remember reading that diabetes care is no better than a third world country. I believe it.

@emmygrace  You are taking a 24-40 hour basal insulin which is background insulin. (tresiba) I take Levemir.

Many Type 2 diabetics still need mealtime insulin such as Novolog. When basal insulin isn't effective enough, you might need mealtime insulin. That's where you need an endocrinologist to help you learn carb ratios to units of insulin. For example I need one unit of Novolog for every 10 grams of carbs eaten at a meal. I take one unit of Novolog if I eat a salad. It is dependent also upon your weight and whether you are insulin resistant. I take metformin off label for insulin resistance.

May I suggest the book "Think Like A Pancreas." It will discuss different insulins and just about everything you will need to know to effectively handle diabetes. Even a 5 lb weight loss or gain affects blood sugars necessitating a change in meds.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I realize how difficult and confusing diabetes is...
