@LilacTree  I broke my knee cap completely in half about 8 years ago.  They gave me tramadol and it worked well for me.   I am suprised at the people that had no relief from it.

Also, there are a couple people I know who got kidney failure from aleve and ibruproferen taken over the hears.  We have a poster who suffers from kidney failure after taking doses of nsaids for years.  So i would take those drugs with caution as well

Hi Shoekitty!   Yeah, it's really a shame that most of the OTC analgesics are more dangerous than the RX ones.  Smiley Sad   I can get some help from Ibuprofen but am paranoid to take them more than once or twice a week.

@chickenbutt

I take Aleve very seldom, maybe twice a week, one pill.  Never take two doses in a day.  It doesn't even help that much.  So I will basically be taking nothing for my considerable daily pain, which includes chronic back pain, shoulder, arm and hands pain, leg pain, and stomach pain.  In other words, full body pain, every day.

I do agree about NSAIDS, particularly ibuprofen which I took regularly every day for RA.  I took eight pills a day and wound up with high blood pressure.  After realizing the cause of the HBP (I had always had lower BPs) I researched the ibuprofen and saw that it could cause HBP.  The doctors never told me that.  Once I stopped taking it, my BP went back down to low normal which it always had been and has continued to be.

However, I have to go to court to get the HBP off my record.  The doctors cannot do it, which I find ridiculous.

It it wasn't for my kids, I'd be outta here.

Tramadol takes forever to kick in for me. It’s better than nothing but it does only slightly more than taking a Tylenol.

@GenXmuse

Tylenol does nothing for me either.  It's a fever reducer and I never run fevers, so it's a non-issue for me.

          @Bonanzajellybean - - I had mentioned__that__ six days ago about Tylenol being a fever reducer...NOT A PAIN RELIEVER...WHERE DID THAT EVER COME FROM LATELY?

                        Tramadol is a slight pain reliever above any [nsaid]..... wondering if you were told --nothing stronger - -that can or will be given, even for1 to 2 a day, OR exchanged for NO prednisone.   >> Trial for one week<< ?!!

My personal ` KNOW` ///  prednisone is worse AS maintenance dosage. Something stronger, esp, with your condition/age/bedridden.

  Games! These little gods love to save their...........

  Adding: I thought the 8mg was 90% curtailing your pain?

     What a shame to put anyone through 'this', having pain.

I do try and follow your weekly to month medical history.

Tramadol is what they now give my mother who suffers with osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease. She has had many spinal surgeries after which stronger opioids were prescribed briefly, but she takes this on a regular basis. It helps with her pain and also, as @garmer explained, lifts her mood just enough to assist her in facing the day.

For reference, my mother will soon be 67-years old.

I wish you all the best in your decision and with your health, @LilacTree

I take Tramadol everyday and it works for me most of the time. I have herniated discs and when I have a bad exacerbation, if the Tramadol does not work then I have to go to my doctor or to the ER. I have known people who cannot tolerate tramadol. I find it is most effective when I take tylenol with it but if you do that, make sure you are taking the tramadol that does not have tylenol in it.

Anyone have experience with this pain med?

@LilacTree

Yes, I had it for kidney stones and it’s amazing.  However, recent research points to adverse reactions.

Tramadol does nothing for me, but I have a friend with fibromyalgia, and it works very well for her.
