I outgrew the machine in about six months and it has been sitting in a closet ever since. A gym membership has been a far better investment for me.
Outgrew it? Never heard that one before. Have had my TG 2000 for well over 20+ years and I will never outgrow it. I don't know about the newer models, but on my TG 2000 I can put a bar through the sled and add steel or plastic weights to it for more resistance. Depending on the size of the steel weights one can add hundreds of pounds to whatever resistance you have "outgrown".
Exercises for 2 arms? Can be done with 1 arm. Exercises for both legs? Can be done with 1 leg. Add the additional maybe 200lbs on the steel slip through bar on the sled and? Maybe you are a Super Heavyweight Power Lifter, beats me! Unless you are super strong or have given up improvisation for using this great piece of exercise equipment, please explain what you mean by "I outgrew the machine in 6 months".
Thank Ya now!
Just what I said. And no, I'll not explain it any further to the resident "expert". It's not a great piece of exercise equipment IMO. Mine is as good as yours.
You're welcome now! Go be condescending to some other "object".

I think John hit a nerve.
skuggles, you may be the kind of person who enjoys exercising with others...not exactly WITH them but you like being with others. That's why a gym membership works for you. Or maybe you like variety...classes, cardio, strength training.
Why not just say it instead of making it the machine's fault?

John didn't hit any nerves, esme.
But thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt and not jumping to any conclusions.
Maybe you could tell us about your total gym since you seem inclined to defend "the machine" that you think I'm blaming so unfairly. Do you have one? How often are you using it, how long have you had it, ... That might make everyone feel better.

Why can't someone just not like the machine? My husband and I didn't care for it either and were warned by our friends not to get one, that it wouldn't be for us.
Not everyone has to like the same things, it's fine. It's okay to have an opinion both ways. I can see where it would be good for some people, and I can see where others would prefer regular weights and a gym.
Sometimes it's okay to agree to disagree. That's why there are so many choices.
Keep moving everyone.

I've had my total gym since 2003. I completely understand your hair getting caught. I've learned over the years to put my hair in a pony tail when working out.

I'm not "defending" it.
Not liking it and outgrowing it are two different things. Even getting bored with it. You said you outgrew it. Did you mean you got bored with it after six months?
I've had mine almost 3 years, use it 2 or 3 times a week, depending on my schedule.

Aha! When facts are given to some the only thing that they can think of is throwing a name around. I will say that being called an expert is one of the nicer terms I've been called on any forum.
Anyone thinking of maybe buying or trying a Total Gym, don't be fooled, it cannot be "outgrown". Not used to its full capacity? Maybe, but I can assure you it cannot be "outgrown". More than likely some just get tired of using it or maybe just tired of exercising. Beats me.
I won't throw a name back at ya.

I say don't be fooled by anyone claiming the facts are equivalent to their opinion, making any others laughable. And then cleverly sending out veiled mockery as a means to further support it.
I outgrew it. So, yes you can. So not only are their inherent dangers as the op intended to warn about, ans as there are in most equipment, you can outgrow it.

Let's see!
Facts-Opinions.
Fact-Chuck Norris has been using his for, well he is 74 years old, and I saw him doing so back in the 1970's. Guess he hasn't "outgrown" it yet.
Opinion-I don't like the Total Gym.
