Absolutely.  For me, I had a good oral surgeon and he extracted several, each time, being put to sleep as they were in different locations of my mouth at different times and replaced with dental implants.  I never had any pain, never had any nausea.  I went home and slept about 4-5 hours (because I did not sleep well the night before out of fear) and when I woke up, had some soup and ginger ale.  The next day I was totally back to normal every single time.

Sounds like you got a lot of good comments from your post yesterday.  You'll be fine.  I'm another who would prefer to NOT be put under.....just novocaine.

It's OK to be nervous. I get nervous every time I go to  dentist, or Doctor. You are going to be sedated, so once you wake up it will be over. You will be so happy you did it, because pain from a toothache is one of the worse for humans. You might have a little discomfort, but the pain will be gone. Good luck!

Sometimes there is no choice. I have a medical condition that makes having anesthesia risky. My appointment was scheduled for local. When I arrived for the appointment the doctor met me in an exam room and asked me to reconsider my decision. My husband was called back and we talked through the risks in my particular case. This is a light dose of anesthesia and they numb the affected area as well. The procedure was complicated and I agreed. Medical decisions are difficult and each should be respected for the decisions they make.

personally, I would never be put under in a dentists office. And I never have. Just novocane.  I would only be put under in a doctors situation with a licensed anesthesiologist.  It is too dangerous to be put under anywhere else. But to each his own...

Oral surgeons are very well trained in anesthesia. Very short acting.

An oral surgeon's office is not a dentist office. This specialty does surgery on cancer patients, reconstructive surgery, and a host of other surgeries. I had not given them the respect they are due until I had my procedure. Many have their MD as well as dental training. Some are dentists with additional specialty training in oral surgery. Either way they don't get the recognition and respect they deserve.

As someone who had to have a tooth pulled after it cracked and developed an abscess, you'll feel so much better once it's done.
