I tried one when I had a wrist sprain and it was virtually worthless.

My DS and BIL even reorder for their knee and elbow problems so I think they believe they work.

They're like support hose for the knees, arms, etc. Given that thought, the compression helps. If it falls to the ankles, it was probably purchased in a size too large. Do they have magical properties to remove chronic pain? No...but the compression feels good.

I haven't tried them but any compression sleeve for the knee will help to stabilize the entire joint, preventing any compromising movements and allowing healing to take place. As far as the copper in the sleeve or magnets in other products, I don't know if they have any healing properties but I am a strong believer in the placebo effect and the power of the mind to believe that something could work.

LadyBug77,
Many, including myself, got relief with any type of strap put under the patella(kneecap). This helps support the patella and for many this helps with many types of knee pain regardless of the cause. It is not a cure for sure, but just a strap from my hockey pads allowed me to keep running, painlessly, many many 10k races for a few years.
Also did several exercises to make sure the VMO muscle group contracted before the "big quad muscles". This took a lot of mental training, but I firmly believe having some type of strap or other support directly in contact with the patella, thus keeping it in it's tract, helps a lot of people.
Find some type of strap or velcro that he can wrap tightly under his patella and give it a try.

Thank you for that info. *I have found my knee brace to be cumbersome...so I'll broach this subject at my next appt*
