So I had my annual diabetes check up last week and everything was ok, A1C 5.6, still off diabetes meds, maintaining my weight at 125#, down from 165 about 2 yrs ago. highest wt 254. (happy girl) Bloodwork showed my vitamin D level is elevated, MD called me wanting to know if I was taking extra vit D. Nope ! Says he will check my level again in a few months
So I started my research to find out why it was elevated.
I eat 2x's a day, breakfast, nothing there. My dinner nightly is a salad with lettuce, tomato, cheese, croutons and either cooked shrimp or QVC Egg Harbor SALMON !!!!
Salmon is high in Vit D ( I didn't know that) and I add 1 filet broken up to my salad at least 3 or 4 times a week. So good !!
Now I have to cut back on my delicious salmon and I guess I will alternate it with chicken and the shrimp. I will notify my MD on Monday.
I just had to vent a little. I'm still a happy girl with the weight loss, off diabetes meds and if the Lord allows, I will be 75 next Sunday !! Wishing all a great and blessed day !! And watch your Vit D level especially if you are eating Salmon !!

Most people are very low in Vit D and have to take supplements, what was your score, 30 is passable but much higher is recommended, mine was once 100 when I took too much supplement, now I keep mine steady at 50 with supp intake. Honestly, I am 73 and never heard of too much D , way too much time in the sun with no sunscreen can elevate it too.

A healthy amount of salmon to eat in a week's time is 8 to 12 ounces. That's because of mercury found in ocean fish so it's best not to go overboard eating any kind of ocean fish.
It's not likely that eating salmon causes abnormally high toxic levels of vitamin D. Levels over 50 are considered to be too high but not toxic.
ETA-
Pay attention to how the lab reports the level. Look at the normal range on the report and compare it to that and don't compare it to what is said otherwise.

Even when I tested at 100, my doc didnt say it was too high, she did say it was the highest she had ever seen.

It seems odd that it would be the salmon. I eat salmon 3 or 4 times a month, and take a vitamin supplement every day with vitamin D, and I have never had a report of excessively high levels of this vitamin.

@SilleeMee I find that quite interesting. Mercury does not seem to affect folks who live along the ocean coastlines, islanders as well as mainly ocean fish diet countries.
There must be huge populations who have mercury poisoning.

I still take 5000mg p/day, of vit D, ever since my cancer dx in 2012. My D levels have been at 50 when tested. I eat salmon but not daily--maybe every 10 days or so along with other things with D in them. My drs haven't told me not to take that much----and have never been told not to eat something because of high D levels---

My vitamin D is in the normal range but I do take a supplement. I don't eat fish of any kind and stay out of the sun unless it's winter. It's to hot and dangerous to spend to much time out in the Arizona sun. Winter is fine.

It depends on the kind of fish, too.

Not salmon! Oh my I love salmon I go to my fish market monthly to buy my wild salmon. I was thinking about incorporating salmon more in my weekly menu. I took a piece out to cook tonight or tomorrow. I learned something new so thanks for the heads up. I recently had lab work done and something was very high but I have to check my results again to see what it was.
