Thrown for a loop with Meniere's

My cardiologist said I have Meniere's disease, a balance problem caused by something going whacko in the inner ear.  I was in complete denial, I thought my balance problems were due to a knee replacement and painful arthritic knees.  Does this get worse or better on its own?  Any hints?  Google isn't much of a help.

I've had vertigo in the past and it is no fun.  Did you go to an ear,nose, throat doctor?  I would check it out with them to make sure.

Go to a specialist in the field and get treatment.   Depending on the severity you may need regular shots and meds.    Hope it becomes more tolerable for you.

@depglass

I'm unaware of this condition, so I went to health/nutrition forums

to see if I get any hits.  Sure enough...this came up.

Google "John of Ohio".

It started off as a quiet blog, a biologist who had this condition,

but he has many, many followers.  He's not saying he's a medical doctor,

but just someone who has the condition & can offer support & ideas.

HTH.

@depglass

last year i was experiencing some similar symptoms, so i went to my ENT. he said i MIGHT have menieres disease. he did a full exam, including a hearing test. he gave me some tips and some exercises to do to help with the problem and they seemed to be working quite well. please go and see an ENT to get some advice.

i had the ear pressure, the fullness feeling in my ear, and the severe vertigo with nausea. i dont think it can be cured, but it can be controlled in some instances.

Re: Thrown for a loop with Meniere's

Had my 1st vertigo attack at 20yrs old....so scary awful...vomitting for hours....it can be so horrible.

Yrs later after having another severe vertigo attack I finally went to a ENT...he didn't do alot of tests but just implied I probably had Meniere's.  I was very depressed when I read about it online and how it progress to finally your completely deaf.  I waited for that to happen to me but it never did.  I kept having vertigo attacks...out of no where BAM!  So once again I went back to a different ENT.  He did many tests....1st was a MRI to rule out MS and other issues like stroke that can causse severe vertigo.  Everything was normal...then other yuky tests...they put this long thiin prob in my ear...fed it thur to I could feel it in my nose...measuring pressure I believe (both ears done).  I did the water in your ears testing (warm/cold) each ear to trigger vertigo (awful test I cried and got very sick)....and some other tests with lights off.  They put these sticky wire things all over the place and flashed lights and all kinds of moving lights on the wall...done in the dark.  Watching my eye movements.

When all of it came back he told me I did NOT have meniere's disease and that I had lost 30% of my balance function in my left ear due to "maybe" a virus....he had no idea why.  He told me I probably have BPPV (google that one) and I think that's correct as rolling over in bed can trigger vertigo for me....lot's of times I can't lay flat on my back...or cieling starts whriling at high speed.

Go to a good ENT....do the yucky testing...it is necessary to be sure what you really have going on.  HTH

@depglass and @tsavorite, I sure feel for you.  Balance is so important, and mine was damaged due to an inner ear infection.  Even years later, if I go outside on a cool and windy day, I will develop vertigo.
