Re: Teeth.....Again.... FRUSTRATION

There are no guarantees with dental work.  Options are given because the root canal could go either way--be successful and the tooth is functioning .  It fails and the tooth is a loss.

I personally try to save every tooth in my head if I can afford it.  No way would I want dentures or a partial.

To the OP--if you already are missing 2 molars on that side, it makes sense to try to save your existing tooth.

I've never had a crown or anything like that. I've only had a few teeth filled. I went to the dentist last year for a tooth that was bothering me. Fortunately, it just need a little filling. However, my mother said that if they suggest a crown or root canel, absolutely say no. She said it's better to pull the tooth than to get a crown. They just cause trouble down the road. From what I hear from other people, my mother is right. I would hate to lose a tooth, but if it's gone, it'll never bother you again. Might have to get dentures or a partial, but it's better than throwing away good money after bad and STILL having troubles with the tooth. Just my two cents...

@reviewer from sc absolutely right that  a crown will eventually lead to a root canal....and later to a failed root canal....but a root canal can last a long long time before you need to pull the tooth.

Re: Teeth.....Again.... FRUSTRATION

I have an autoimmune disease which comes with my very own personal Tooth Fairy who is always waiting in the wings to strike. Just when I think my teeth will be okay, one more gets loose and then within a few weeks it just falls out. It's like a revolving door at my dentist's office with all the implant stuff going on with me. Seems to never end.

I think since you don't want to lose that tooth, it would be worth giving the root canal a try. You've nothing to lose except the money spent, if it fails soon, but if it goes well, maybe you can keep that tooth much longer than predicted.

They're required to tell you any possible procedure negatives, as a precaution, but they may not happen. They just don't want you to come back angry if it fails. It's a, cover-their-behind, thing.

If it was me, I'd try to save it, but you have to weigh all the pros and cons yourself. Good luck with it.

Hmmm, I have about 5 crowns, that I've had many years, and the teeth underneath seem fine- Honestly, these days I have amped up my personal dental care : 1) No super hard foods that can crack teeth, ie, croutons, pretzels, hard nuts, or god forbid, peanut or any brittle, watch out for super chewy foods too, like hard gummies, which are my favorite! 2) Braun toothbrush for 5 full minutes 2x day, 3) flossing and or denta-sticks pretty much daily, and 4) daily dental anti-germ rinse before bed-   My rules for myself because I HATE dental work!!  🤣🤣🙄

@SeaMaiden, I agree with everyone, try to save the tooth!

Be careful about having teeth just pulled. Your bite will change as the teeth shift.
