TMJ

Just wondering if any of you suffer from TMJ. I had never had it until last Sat when I woke up in terrible pain on the right, unable to move my lower jaw at all. Saw a doctor, who diagnosed, told me to take ibuprophen and hot compresses and basically live it through. It's been a week now and. although I am not in as much pain (just a low-grade ear ache), and can now move my jaw a bit, I still can't bite down. Been living on smoothies, pudding, yogurt, and broth soups all week. Haven't been back to the doctor although I'm thinking of giving him a call. Anyone have experience - should this take this long? What more can I do?
