I have had TMJ off and on for years, but this time it is so bad I can only eat flat food as I cannot open my mouth wide enough to even get a fork in it. It hurts to chew and I just am in pain as long as I don't try to eat. I know this should be a great way to lose weight, but it sure isn't very fun, and I am so hungry. I went to my dentist for my cleaning and she could hear my jaw crack when I had to open my mouth. She referred me to an Oral Surgeon, but he wouldn't take any insurance and charged $180 just for the consultation. So I went to my husbands doctor that is on our plan and he is referring me to another Oral Surgeon, but don't know if he will take our insurance either.

The doctor said it is because I grind my teeth at night. I have NEVER been told that by any dentist I have gone to. I am at my wits end. Do any of you know what I can do to help with this horrible problem?
