I was wondering if anyone has been treated for TMJ or TMD as they call it...perhaps using botox? I saw on The Doctors show (found it on youtube) they had used botox to immediately relieve the pain instead of steroid injections.
I also have a book by Clair Davies....trigger point workbook (also have the one for frozen shoulder) and found the painful trigger points in this area...just started the recommended massage for them but so far they just hurt and don't seem to be improving.
I also have been reading & found out that TMJ/TMD can be a cause for chronic neck pain/stiffness and even chronic shoulder pain. All of which I have.
My problems are myofascial pain or trigger points that are active all over most of my body...I feel like I am a mess to be honest. I have a history of neck strain plus in a car accident about 18months ago (whiplash) and so on.
I have one of those night guard things but it's really not comfortable to sleep in and since my dentist said I don't grind my teeth...as the enamel is fine I haven't used it much.
I know emotional stressors are also a big part in this...as it can set off the cycle of muscle clenching....it all seems fustrating to me...have been doing chrio tx's for almost a yr now and have some improvements but not in the muscles/trigger points...and those are the biggest issues for me.
If anyone has any ideas of specialist to see or what next to try I'd appreciate the feedback. I did PT also recently for the neck/shoulder issue...helped a tiny but when I would try to stretch my neck I'd get a major neck cramp and would have to stop for weeks and then try to start all over again.
I feel like I am not getting anywhere and just seeing the chrio isn't enough. Thought I'd be much better by now. Oh I don't have any slipped dics or anything like that...just the beginnings of some arthritis in my neck (the 2 last discs show it).
Sorry about the length of this....I am just not sure what to look into next....thanks for any help.
