Swollen thyroid ....

This morning while getting ready for work, I looked in the mirror, and my neck, just under the Adam's apple area and above my collar bone, seems to be swollen. I went on the computer, looked it up, and it seems it could that my thyroid is swollen. What's that all about? I never had any experience with any thyroid issues. What causes a swollen thyroid, will it go away?
