Thank you!  Which of the two products do you think is helping the most with your pain?  I think I read that astaxanthin is an anti-inflammatory.  Those seem to have an inflammatory effect on me but I'm willing to try them.

Re: Supplements for Arthritis

@monicakm      I am taking magnesium oxide and you are certainly right, there are so many types of magnesium that it can make it confusing! I sure hope you can find something that works for your arthritis that your Cardiologist approves of!!! ❤️

I've had arthritis since I was in grade school.  4th to be exact.

Keeping my weight within the "recommended" range HELPS.  The only other thing that works is aspirin.    Good thing I have a cast iron stomach (!!!)

Edited to add:   Exercise also helps me.   Muscle seems to reduce the stress on my bones.

My recent heart attack was blamed on Meloxicam.  I don't know how the cardiologist could say that with any certainty.  I have other risk factors.  But, I can no longer take that drug or any NSAIDS.   My hands HURT!  I can not take turmeric.  It actually causes inflammation :/  What are your tried and true supplements for inflammation?

Thank you

I have a friend that swears by Turmeric.

Before taking it in her early 50's she'd have to walk sideways to get down the steep steps at Coor's Field when we'd go to a baseball game.  Now no problem for her.

My inflammation goes way down when I mostly eliminate sugar.

I can't tolerate turmeric.  It causes inflammation Smiley Sad  I have a list somewhere of "natural" ingredients I can't tolerate and turmeric is one of them.  I'm glad it helps your friend tho.

I also tried turmeric...after a while, I developed a VERY sallow skin tone, and quit taking it.     di

I cannot take NSAIDS either.  Since my kidney removal I'm only allowed acetaminophen (Tylenol) and I only take it if absolutely necessary, say if a headache lingers more than a day.

I have residual nerve damage in my hands (numb fingertips on my pinkies and ring fingers) and general achiness in my hands.  My massage therapist does my hands as part of my monthly massage and it feels fantastic.  I'm careful with my supplements too, but do take D3/K2,  a high DHA fish oil, a magnesium complex, hyaluronic acid, alpha lipoic acid, and liquid collagen.  Whatever benefits I can gleen, great, but they aren't a cure all either.

@monicakm  Wow I didn't know that Meloxicam could cause a heart attack!!! I also have pain in my hands and knee. I have been taking Meloxicam for several years but I am aware that it's bad for the kidneys so I only take it once a week or so. It usually takes about a day to kick in and lasts several days.

I took a Meloxicam pill yesterday and my hands don't hurt this morning. I should be mostly pain free for a few more days. I'll take another pill on Sunday or Monday morning to be pain free for Christmas.

I'm sorry what happened to you!

Arthritis is tough. I feel for you.

Here are some things I do.

I wear support sleeves on my wrists and ankles when they hurt - thin enough to not get in the way of anything I want to do. My wrist sleeves must have thumb supports as those joints acts up a lot.

My thumbs hurt a lot. I recently found this minimalist support on Amazon. It's super thin but provides just enough support for days when pain isn't excruciating.

I can't let my ankles and feet get cold but I hate socks.

1. I wear Ugg short or regular classic boots as slippers. I replace the insoles every year.  Covering my ankles has significantly reduced the pain. This year, I actually added replacement insoles and the extra layer has helped.

2. I keep an electric throw blanket or heating pad handy. The heat is very soothing.

3. I don't have an electric blanket on my bed but I have always kept a hot pad handy in the winter for reading time. I turn it off before going to sleep.

4. I recently bought a little heavier comforter and my feet/ankles no longer get cold at night (LLB Down Alternative in green). I rarely need the hot pad now.  Even after being post-menopause for 20+ years, I still have nightly hot flashes so I didn't want the heaviest comforter.

5. I have a couple pair of support crew socks for really cold days.

Anyway, these things help me. Tylenol is also helpful at times.
