Re: Suggestions to replace Mtn Dew ?

Well..........a friend told me to fatten myself up so that, if I fall, I will bounce rather than break any bones.    Everyone has their own opinions............realistic, or not.   You are free to ignore them (!)

Re: Suggestions to replace Mtn Dew ?

My suggestion to replace Mountain Dew would be filtered Water. Sorry to be a "wet blanket" but all that soda is conducive to getting kidney stones.

@Reever  I am so sorry that happened to you.  No one, not even well meaning family members, have the right to make you feel less than.  Heart  I'm sure they have equal vices as we all do.

IF you want to change what you drink (and that's your choice no one else's), you gradually step down how much you drink every day.

I'm not much of a carbonated drink person but fruit juices mixed with club soda or seltzer will probably help you and are better for you.

On the rare occasion I do want something like that, I really liked mixing pineapple juice or other juices and making a fizzy all natural drink.  Just make sure you stick with 100% juices so you can go as all natural as you can and be aware juices are pure sugar too but a more natual version of it and no caffeine.

Don't let others bring you down.  You are perfectly fine just being you.  Smiley Happy

Re: Suggestions to replace Mtn Dew ?

Mtn Dew was my vice, until the day I decided to give up High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Switched to unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar in spring water, with one of those powdered sugar-free flavor packets (no aspartame, I forget what the sweetener is tho). Took care of my problem, and I also stopped waking up in the middle of the night with terrible acid reflux.

Much like the cigarette frenzy in the 80s and 90s. It used to be you could smoke anywhere back in the glory days of the 1950s. Now they are after Soda, really ruined the dinner made me feel guilty.

@Reever  I so totally understand your love for diet soda.  I use to drink LOTS of it. Usually Diet Rite Soda.  I decided to quit when I wanted to improve my overall health and lifestyle.  It was not easy... just like quiting smokin 30 years ago cold turkey was for me...... but when you really set your mind to wanting to change... you just do it.

I decided to start making  herb tea as my beverage... drink it warm or cold depending on the season... add stevia to sweeten.  I have been doing this now for going on 5 years. I brew enough for 2 days a time and just store the brewed tea in the refrigerator in a container.  I have to brew more every few days... but that is easy.. let it cool and pop into the refrigerator.

My tea of choice is celestrial seasonings brand.. I brew the vanilla Chamomile Sleep blend tea as I like things that give me a calm feeling and I can drink it up until bedtime. It also tastes so so good!.  They make a great variety of flavors of tea to choose from.    I am not against caffeine, so it you wanted the buzz of caffeine you could brew your favorite green or black tea in their line.

This is also a cost savings change from diet or reg soda.  It is much less expensive to brew your own beverage. And better for you. It is like anything... a choice you have to make and just stick with it for a few months until it becomes a habit like the soda habit is now.

I hope this helps you. Like I said, I was a total soda drinker... up to 6 plus cans a day and usually more.  I know that not drinking that anymore is a big health plus for me today at 62.

First off....no one can ‘make you’ feel guilty.

If you feel icky w/ their remarks, that’s a sign you know

deep down what you’re doing is not right.

It’s not scolding nor a fad. It’s a cold, hard truth..like smoking.

Not good...never has been, never will be.

51oz/a day x 7 = 355oz/week - Almost 3 gallons/week

Re: Suggestions to replace Mtn Dew ?

I just drink water now, I have been battling with gerd and gastritis, for months ,and stopped all diet soda and tea too

I really miss the tea, and now drink only hot water, in its place. I don't  feel any better for doing it, but I am not any worse ,either

You have to decide what is right for you, other people don't live in your body,so to heck with what they think

Unless a Dr tells you to quit ,its just your opinion against theirs

Actually it is a sign that being shamed or having a judgement dropped on you hurts.  It doesn't work.  Never has.

@Reever  Ignore and understand no one else lives in your body and everything from sugar to caffeine to alcohol to nicotine are physical addictions at their core.   If they were so easy to stop by someone just saying a nasty word to us, we all would.

Frankly we'd put half the healthcare system out of business and sign up to walk the runways in Paris next Spring.

Enjoy your life and have a special hand gesture for the rest of the nonsense.  I have a sneaking suspicion there are quite a few sodas parked next to more than a few keyboards, even in the Wellness forum.  Picture it, have a laugh ,and move on.      Smiley Happy
