Today completed my second week of eliminating sugar from my diet (except in natural form, like fruit). I'm trying to lose 10-15 pounds and decided to cut candy, cookies, cake, and ice cream from my diet. I also don't drink soda and only have an occasional glass of wine but no other alcohol. My day used to start with a 13g of sugar Pop Tart and went downhill from there.

My observations so far have been very surprising. My biggest surprise was an almost instant end to my sinus congestion. I was experiencing severe pain and puffiness in my sinuses and had to take Advil to reduce the swelling and relieve a sinus headache at least three times a week. Sometimes more. I always thought this was weather related. Well, we've had many changes in weather during these two weeks, and I haven't experienced any of my typical congestion or headaches.

My second observation is a loss of appetite. I still get hungry, eat meals, and have an occasional snack, but I used to be a big snacker. Now, I just don't crave anything any more. I don't own a scale, so I can't report any weight loss yet, but in my mind I just feel "slimmer." I'll be watching my clothing fit.

Do these observations make sense to anyone? I hope some day I can eat occasional sweets because I love to bake for my family, but for now I think I must eliminate all sweets from my diet. I was one who could never eat just one cookie!
