Re: Stopping Birth Control Pills

You can stop that any time you like, it mean nothing.  I stopped mine.  My problem was the effects of menopause.  I suffered greatly.  I was always jittery, I sweated profusely and then my doctor prescribed HRT.  Breat cancer is not in my family on both sides.  My images were always completely clear but after being on HRT, they started to not be clear and a stage one swelling began.  It must have sat there because for years I stopped having images.  I just didn't like them, they hurt.  After getting hit with a door in the breast I started feeling a swelling.  This was a couple of years I stopped HRT, which I was on around seven or so years.  HRT and birth control pills, you take at a serious risk.  They come with a "black box" warning from the FDA that it can cause breast and endometrial cancer.  It's a serious risk.  People have this thing in their heads that they NEED to take these chemicals, among many others.  I stopped them abruptly and nothing happened besides my menopausal symptoms returning.  I didn't cork off.

Re: Stopping Birth Control Pills

Good point, ALRATIBA.  These devices can cause ectopic pregnancies, which happened to my sister when she had an IUD.    The other risk is that these devices, now adays, infuse into the system, hormones which can and DO cause breast and endometrial cancers.  The poster that said birth control should be used for short duration is correct.  These IUD devices are WAY too dangerous.  I'm sorry but they really are.  Yes, these are people who are unaffected but I believe they are the exception.

Wow @Tinkrbl44. She didn’t say it was okay. She asked about it.  What’s with the omg and are you serious?

Well, I'm sorry if you think I overreacted.  I admit I was surprised she knew so little about a med she's been taking for years.  It's pretty common knowledge that you don't stop BCP mid month, but always complete the cycle.

Her comment "I think I need to get off them" was a red flag, IMO.   Clearly there's a problem and she needs to have a discussion with her MD.   Maybe there's a serious, unrelated problem .....  or she just needs to be on a lower dosage pill.   Any version of "self-medicating" with prescription drugs is always a big mistake.  JMO

Regardless of your assumption of what is “common knowledge” among the general populous that type of response was unwarranted.

Why not just answer the question without ridiculing someone about what they should know or do. Stopping the pill doesn’t always require a doctors tacit approval. I didn’t need permission to d/c birth control.

She also stated in a follow up post that she wanted to see if she were in menopause at age 55 not that she was having problems.

The wellness forum should be a pretty safe place to ask a question.

BTW, thank you for your apology. 😊

Wow.   Looks like you need to stop taking your cranky pills!  I wasn't ridiculing the OP and it's at the discretion of the mods to decide what is unwarranted.   The OP is a grown woman and if she had a problem with my comments, she can speak for herself.  I still maintain that, even if a woman has a medical degree, messing with one's hormones can be tricky.   I'm entitled to express my opinion, even if you don't like it.

I stopped reading after “cranky pills”.  I believe you’ve made my point.
