Re: Sticker codes on fruit decoded

@GingerPeach

How’s this?

I know the codes to several like naners & spuds...

kinda freaks the cashier when I rattle off codes.

I knew you'd be ahead of the curve on this kind of thing, @sidsmom !

This is a nice little helper.

PLU=Price Look Up

Tribana bananas may not share the same code as Chiquita and Dole.

The Tribana brand is icky though.

Why I shop at the Farmer's Market.

Dude in the straw hat and overalls doesn't have stickers on anything.

We don't have Farmer's Market all year round so have to buy stickered stuff sometimes.

I try to freeze as much as I can when I find it at a good price. Still have blueberries and sweet corn on the ear from last season I need to use up.

Not the same consistency for sure but frozen strawberries in a smoothie in January are terrific!

@Snowpuppy

I agree!  But I don't have a freezer big enough to store a lot of blueberries or strawberries (or anything else)  so I buy organic frozen ones to use.

One day maybe I will have a big freezer!

The Farmer's Markets here are getting more local produce as summer approaches.  There is one a 2 minute walk from my house that I go to on Sundays.  And my local Co-op which is just as close carries local produce.  I feel very fortunate to have that.

Re: Sticker codes on fruit decoded

@GingerPeach Thanks for posting.  There's a picture of the guy who sells the produce to the store and the name of his farm.

During the summer months, my friend down the street supplies me with some vegetables.

I shop at the same store.  I don't worry about things because I figure I've made it to 71 in good health and the last thing I need to do is worry about everything.

I worry enough about the safety of my family.  After that everything else just isn't as important.

Again, it is interesting.  I'm like you @GingerPeach I go searching for one thing and find other interesting facts.  But (probably unlike you) it never stays in my head.

I read somewhere not long ago that the stickers are edible.

No, thanks, I'll pass.

@QueenDanceALot

I googled and didn’t find any info about when the new labeling process would begin. I thought instead of stickers, that machines would code the produce with edible ink.

@butterfly123

Ah, maybe that's what I read about.

Still, now I want to know what the "edible ink" is before I decide if I want to eat it or not.
