I was visiting with two friends today at one of their homes. We were going thru things in her basement and she was carrying a large container of crafts. I worried she was having to hold it too long and tried to back out of her way. I tripped on some wood boards that were on the floor behind me. I stumbled backward and tried to catch myself. My friend tried to catch me, thank heavens! She slowed my twirling fall enough that when my body introduced itself to the floor I did not land with a thud but a mere "bump"! Unfortunately, my pirouetting fall included a major twist of my right ankle (the same foot I broke 4 years ago). We stayed and visited nearly an hour more. When I returned home and actually looked at my foot, I had a baseball sized egg on my ankle! It was huge! So, 6 hours and 5 X-rays later, I am getting reacquainted with crutches! Thank goodness my house is a ranch as " although no fracture is evident we can't rule out the possibility that it didn't show up on the X-rays.". Now, I do have 3 small stairs to get into the front door, which were quite entertaining for the neighbors as my ds practically was carrying me up, but once level I was doing pretty well. Bad news, I am non weight bearing again! Last time was 6 months. I pray this will be a matter of days! Fortunately, all my shopping is finished, but I need to wrap it all, put up 2 trees and bake! The last time was at Christmas as well. Yikes! The most painful part was how embarrassed I was sitting on the basement floor with two friends worried I was injured! It was mostly my pride that was injured at the time but now I will feel the pain of days ticking off closer to Christmas with fewer things getting accomplished!

Never underestimate the power of kindness.

@Imadickens  You have nothing to be embarrassed about!  But I feel for you with being laid up this time of year when there's so much to do.  I hope you have loved ones who will help you and that your pain will be minimal.  But I do know how frustrating it is!

E.T.A.  Hopefully during that hour after your fall, you wrapped an ice bag around your injury, and elevated it. Many times, especially when swelling is involved, X-rays are not conclusive.

I personally prefer broken bones to a sprained joint. They heal stronger and usually are not as likely to be a chronic problem, that just never seems to completely heal. But, that's just me.

Embarrassed? You say they were 2 friends, I can't imagine why you would be embarrassed, especially since you were injured.

Sorry to hear you were injured, but again, I personally would have YOUR doctor take another X-ray. My wife went to the ER when she fell and they took an X-ray. It came back as negative, no break.

She fell on concrete and injures her elbow. ER says no fracture. Fortunately, 2 of my friends are Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeons. After the pain not getting better, she came to one of my Adult Hockey League games.

The Ortho doctor made just one movement and told her she had a broken radial head bone in her elbow. She went to his office the next day, took another X-ray, and sure enough, it was easy to see the fracture. Took months to completely heal.

I was on crutches for over a year for a leg injury that required surgery. No bones broken, but a puck hit my leg and ended up with a bleeding blood vessel and only solution was surgery/stay off my feet/Ice and elevation. Couldn't run/skate/use my recumbent bike, or even walk more than 3 minutes on my treadmill. Took 18 months to get over that one.

Hopefully you get your family to help you when it need it, and I am hoping that you get more mobility sooner than you did with you other incident.

My best to you.

@Imadickens, oh, how terribly painful.  Get your rest and try not to worry about the wrapping, decorating and baking.  Maybe, this year, let it go.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Heart

Jewelwisher   So sorry for your accident. Make sure you take care of you. Do less this year. It will be ok. We all try to do too much and sometimes less is more.
